New phones - EVER?
I like the coverage, but the phones selection is killing me so now I'm thinking of moving to cingular to get the Moto A630. Need something with bluetooth and the keypad without spending $500...

They feel that no more phones are necessary beyond what they currently offer.
In fact, they are going to do away with digital service and revert back to analog, its more reliable and has more coverage than any other system.

ROFL! I thought it was quite funny, and I am a GSM guy. A good dry sence of humor is always appreciated lol!

it was a joke lighten up a bit.
I've heard it decreases chances of radiation poisoning too.
Have you heard the rumor of the kinetic cell phones? Just shake 'em real hard if you start to lose a call or battery power. Bouncing it off a hard object works well too. đ

Call to VZW C.S.:
"But, this guy on PhoneScoop.com said I could do it."

OH HEY!! Did you hear that VZW has pioneered the initial phases of Nuclear Fission? Yep, and tryin to integrate it into a new phone that also does your laundry, drives your car, and makes you more physically attractive to the opposite sex.

I thought just having VZW did that? đ

I'm down with kinetic cell phones....as much as I have to walk around the expectations set by bad reps, advertising, and DAMN websites undercutting me I'd have an infinite battery.

Let's not leave out it has a built in pace maker, too, and in some models it can even use a laser to level your pictures on the wall, and if you get the xlgbh model the laser can radiate heat, too making it very useful to build fires on the roadside when you break down....

The sad part(and this isn't directed against you, bizkit) is that if some carrier actually offered a ridiculous feature like an integrated laser level, you would be *guaranteed* to have some feeb running around the VZW forums, screaming:
"VERIZON PHONES ARE TEH SUCK! DEY DON'T HAVE A LASER LEVEL! HOW COME!?! SO BAD! I'M GOING TO [insert ...

You are right, Verizon's phones suck, & most everyone knows it. Myself, I'll be ending my Verizon service at the end of the month since service is already paid thru 12-31. I by chance also have an ATTWS TDMA phone which has always outperformed my Verizon CDMA, so the Verizon phone drew the short stick. When ATTWS TDMA goes away I'll get a Sprint or Verizon phone so I'll have analog coverage if analog is still around. I travel & there is still a LOT of analog out there.
There are still holes in Cingular's network although those are somewhat improved since the merger. For me, Cingular as well as ATTWS TDMA pr...

Mmm... nah. Well, maybe at the high end they do. But who is this 'most everyone'? Most ppl use midrange or low-end phones, I'd imagine, and VZW has some very decent phones in those categories. I personally love my Samsung 530s on Verizon.
Doesn't have a lot of bells n' whistles (it actually CAN'T, 'cuz my employer does not allow cameraphones), but in terms of reception and audio quality, its been great. Its also REALLY small and light. No complaints.
Seriously, I have a number of friends on VZW, and until I came here, I never knew ppl hated VZW's phone selection so much.
But it does seem like most of the ppl here who do hate the selection are either high-enders or reps from other carriers who just like to poke fun, i.e. not your average Joe Consumer. That said, yeah, there's certainly things that VZW could do to improve their selection, though I have noticed that they've been releasing more new phones of late.
At my local Verizon store, they're pushing the LG junk. Junk is my opinion. They're embarrassed by their Motorola product & their Nokia is just filler material that has a horrible screen.
At my local Cingular store, no one except for me took the cheap phone. Customers were shelling out $$$ for top end phones. The store can't even get a Nokia 6820 they're selling so hot, and Razr's were out of stock too. Even the display Razr got sold.
Buy the time Verizon gets a clue it may be too late.

I don't know how Cingular will "book" their migrating ATTWS customers who switch over to Cingular, but those numbers may count too. As for phone selection, with all things being equal Cingular will stomp Verizon.
Verizon's advantage has been ATTWS's and Cingular's new GSM networks with spotty service as well as some conversion of their networks from older technology to GSM while Verizon stayed it course & didn't mess with anything while expanding its network.
To me, Verizon has this...

But I think you're underestimating in the short-term how much trouble Cingy is going to have bringing the poorly-executing ATTW half of the new company up to speed. Lets face it- ATTW has really flat-out sucked in the past year or so, they completely blew the local number portability thing and their CS database upgrade was a nightmare that literally DROVE customers screaming to other carriers, especially Verizon. âšī¸
So Cingy is in for quite a challenge, both from within and from without. The fourth quarter numbers will be interesting.
