Good for Google Sprint and T-Mobile for soon to be providing open hand sets! Of course this goes against verizon nazi loving approach so no go for you guys 🤣 🤣

It's official now, I will be getting the Pearl. But look for it on eBay when the goog phone comes out. And if this continues, I'll take a less reliable network with WiFi in a device and more open technology and ditch the VZW phones and sales job. They have a lot of good products, but it will be interesting to see what happens in the next 6 months. Who knows, I may end up selling for another carrier...

According to the article posted on Phonescoop last week...

"Verizon, T-Mobile Considering Google OS
Oct 30, 2007, 6:37 PM source: Wall Street Journal

Verizon is in talks with Google to adopt the search giant's upcoming mobile phone platform. The company is also reported to be in partnership talks with T-Mobile USA. Although no official announcements or details have been released, most reports suggest that Google is offering an inexpensive operating system to carriers, which they can then customize and deliver to manufacturers. The Wall Street Journal expects Google to announce details by mid-November and for handsets to go on sale mid 2008."

Now sure where you get the idea that VZW hates Google. Seems to me that they are wo...

must people get on this forum and continually troll, obviously if you feel the need to bash verizon you have some type of insecurity regarding your carrier of choice and if you accuse them of being "nazis" (which i find an ignorant and offensive comparision, has verizon rounded up 3 million people and gased them? no, so stop using that analogy) that somehow makes you feel better. while i agree that verizon does have many faults (honestly, what corporation doesn't?) you cannot say that sprint is better as evidenced by their downward spiral over the past few years.t-mobile on the other hand is looking more and more promising...let us hope that the gsm carriers catch up in terms of actually 3G coverage and speed so that maybe i might be able to...

same old complaint with regards to crippling the phones so...let's just leave that to rest. but yes it is unfortunate that they seem to be against the so-called "open networks" (let's see if that really pans out, most corporations have a nasty habit of not honoring all their promises), but i doubt verizon would stagnate with regards to these new standards, so maybe before we judge and speculate about their future plans we should adopt a "wait & see" attitude

and who says this is going to be a success? verizon wireless is the largest wireless carrier by revenue and if that doesn't say that they're a sucessful company i don't know what does. i doubt google (who has little to no experience in the wireless industry) is going to come in and partner with the number 3 and 4 carriers and just suddenly usurp the number 2 carrier in terms of customers. just b/c google has capital to throw around doesn't mean their venture will be a success.

*gasps* so you mean VZW hates profits, a competitive wireless industry, and did I mention profits? Do you realy expect the wireless industry to be successful with the BS that the government is wanting to impose. You obviously live in a dream world, I applaud VZW for the ever growing step towards customer friendliness, and will continue to do so as long as they stay one step above the rest of the market, and above the "leader" AT&T.

I agree I also find it humorous, I also find the unlimited text, mobile TV, variable ETF, and other features AT&T always rolls out after VZW (which btw the mobile TV is still not out even though AT&T promised it at the end of the year, and yes the ARPU is much for postpaid customer's than prepaid.

as usual the gsm carriers are behind the cdma networks (with regard to technology at least), how long is it going to take to have them roll out a national 3G network, and edge doesn't count, its nowhere near the speed of evdo. tmobile doesn't even HAVE a 3G network yet. let's get real people

I've been a wireless consumer since I was 13, and my father has been in the wireless industry for 15 years, so I can speak for the consumer, because I am a consumer, and I a also have knowledge of the wireless industry. And I hate to tell you but the average american consumer ain't (poetic emphasis) all that smart. I still talk to people that think "in-calling" is incoming calls.

wonderfully spoken thom, I for one, am not blind to Verion's faults, yet that does not mean that I am going to use a ridiculous hyperole stating a company hates america. If you were familiar with their policies you would see that they are working towards becoming very consumer friendly.

Are you two both so blind that you can't see the positive impact for the consumer! i think you need to take a step and look outside of the box, yes verizon is successful but will they remain successful with their narrow minded view of the industry? Look even in some small ways verizon current crippling has harmed them, if this Google venture explodes over time the average consumer will be wondering why their current hand set doesn't do what a google phone can.

Google has a lot of consumer recognition, this is going to be huge.

if you actually read any of our reponses you might see that we are, in reality, far from being brain dead. just b/c we disagree with the supposed points that VZWookie has made does not automatically make us verizon drones. perhaps if we met in person you might call me brain dead to my face, perhaps not, my point being that if you plan to insult us it might be prudent of you to consider that we are real people and don't take kindly to insults directed towards our intelluctual prowess, how's that for brain dead?

Of course crippling some features is not the best thing in the world, but if you ask the average comsumer what crippling a phone features mean and they are going to give you a blank stare. Verizon wireless posted 1.6 millino net adds this Q3. What does this mean? That to the average consumer phrases like "unlocked phones", "verizon UI", and "feature locking" mean nothing. The younger market 10-35ish cares about "cool" and "hip" phones. The business market cares about e-mail functionality and internet. And the older generation cares about a phone that makes calls without "the bells and whistles". You are free to hurl careless, and unintellectual insults such as brainwashed rep around all you like. But it is you who know nothing about the mark...

SAN FRANCISCO - Confirming its long-rumored foray into the mobile market, Google said Monday it is developing a free cell phone software package so the Internet search leader can more easily peddle ads and services to people who aren't in front of a PC.

While the announcement ended months of speculation about the Mountain View-based company's cellular ambitions, the first phones equipped with Google's so-called "software stack" still won't be available until the second half of 2008.

And Google won't be making the phones, nor does it plan to stamp its pri...

Wow, and you the 1% of the consumers out there speaks for the consumer? 99% of customers I see on a daily basis has no clue what bluetooth is and they are delighted that when they upgrade from the LG-vx8100, they don't have to learn a new menu style. While those of us on phonescoop may be in-the-know techno geeks, we represent a VERY small percentage of the population. When it comes down to it, the commercials on TV speaks for the consumers. They only want to see a phone (i.e. chocolate, juke, iphone) because they saw the commercial. People want and buy what comp...
