had a wise guy bet me $1 mill that he could get a PTT phone active on a non-PTT plan by the end of the day. I told him I wouldn't want to take his money. he told me that I was discriminating against that phone. 🙄

PLEASE let me know if there's any possible way that what he bragged about is possible; from what I've read, it's not, correct?

thought so; I had a rep let me know that I could combine plans, but she'd be charged an extra $10 a month for the service allowance. 😈

OR...the rep could use an esn writer and put a non-ptt esn into the phone...that would allow it to be activated...definitely not legal, but hard to prove

huh. they're not that bright; the guy was talking about having them charge the PTT on a minute-to-minute basis. sounds feasible, but who knows when they g-parents may push the button accidentally(if that's possible) and rack up ALOT of minutes.

hmm...sounds needlessly complicated to me. and as far as i know there's no way to bill PTT like that b/c when you try to activate a PTT esn on a non-PTT price plan it just says "this phone is not compatible with the selected price plan, please choose another price plan" sooo i have no idea how he'd manage that, but anything's possible and i guess he might have access to a system that i don't

doubt that; he probably just wanted to save face, since he got them the phone in the first place.

I can confirm that it is possible. I know that EREOS won't let us but I've had a customer come in with a PTT phone on a non-PTT plan. I have to warn you that it does very bad things to billing though. It creates data usage on the account that causes way huge bills.

You'll lose. Any PTT phone can be activated as long as you add the "block packet data" Feature during the activation. They will only be able to make and receive phone calls.

That is a good example of why we need new systems in stores, at least for customer service we are blocked from putting a PTT phone on a non-PTT plan by ACSS.

And in the case of a store putting one on a non-PTT plan, revenue assurance should catch it and "fix" it, thus having the customer on a PTT plan.

Obviously, based on some of the responses, there are some glitches out there. A properly provisioned push to talk phone should not be able to be activated on a regular plan HOWEVER, there is a device list of ESNs (to insiders, the DMD) and as new ESNs enter the warehouse, they are inputted into the list to be used on VZW accounts. (This is the same list that will prevent non VZW phones from being activated and pre-pay from going on post pay). The list contains not only ESNs but appropriate feature descriptions. IF someone input a PTT ESN as a regular phone, THEN it can be activated.

I've seen a PTT on a regular plan ONCE!!! I tried to do it for a customer but it didn't work. Though I don't know how they did it. They had a LG-VX4700 if it matters to anyone.

Though I've seen lots of non-PTT's on PTT plans. Weird, huh?

I've since the same thing as bigredslave a few times. Usually an LG 4700 ptt phone. When I get the call, usually it's a Indirect agent like Celluphone that just activated it.

So, it must depend on the activations systems used. The systems we use directly won't allow this type of change.

Now, this will all change anyway with the new Nationwide pricing and such changes can be made.
