VZW issues in Las Vegas NV.

I had a 3 friends who was able to make and receive calls and text messages fine in her home area.
When my friends went to Vegas, they were able to make and receive calls and text messages the 1st day they were there.

Their next 3 days in Vegas, they were unable to receive calls. All of their calls would go directly to voice mail. They were able able to make and receive *text messages and outgoing calls only. (*late text messages)

When she came back to her home area, they were back to receiving incoming calls.

They both have the LG VX-8550 Chocolate. Was there any network issues, LG issue, or possible lemons?

Thanks in advance,
Yean

Sounds like there were two things. a bad cell phone and/or a bad service. I think it would be closer to the latter than the former.

Hey,
This happens to me every once in awhile, especially when I travel. The other thing I have noticed is that my messages may actually be received the next day instead of the day they were placed.

I am not aware of any network issues that were going on in Vegas recently.

Even though its strange for two phones to do this sounds like a typical case of the system select being programmed wrong on these phones.

The normal symptoms are phone will work in the home area but not anywhere else.

If I remember correctly since I am not at work have them go to:
Menu-->Settings & Tools-->Phone Settings-->System Select. If it is on Home only then just change it to Automatic.
(In some cases there will be Auto A and Auto B if this is the case have them contact VZW to get this information.)

If for some reason you know there SID an easy rule of thumb is odd SID is A and Even SID's are B.

Sorry for the long post hope this help...

No need to apologize for the long post. I'm aware if Home SID's and roaming setting (due to working with Sprint). I did educate both of my friends on settings and programmings, and even had my friends call VZW from the hotel room and check settings and programming.

They were instructed to take the phones into a VZW store if the re-programming didn't work.

Still didn't work. They just had their friends and family call my phone while we were in Vegas.

I know they're going to a VZW store on Friday to have their phones checked.

Does VZW have the equipment to check phones? Could it be a possible firmware fix? Both of the phones are fairly new.

Thanks vzw-csr21.

My brother was visiting me here in Dallas a few weeks ago and experienced a like problem. He could call out but all incoming calls would go to voice mail.

We went to a VZW store where the tech could not correct the issue. In fact, everyone who worked at the store tried and had no success.

After my brother returned home his phone worked without problem again.

Very strange.

The issue you are refering to is a setting in the "switch" on their line. Their line for some reason is set to not receive calls while roaming. They just need to call into customer service and a data support rep will fix it.

I am guessing this isnt an issue anymore though as it is a week and a half later though 😛
