Question: Switching from a Verizon Store to a 3rd party agent while under the 15-Day Trial Period...

Here's a Q for the VZW reps...

My famous friend who's finally kicked ATTW (nee Cingular) to the curb went shopping last weekend and signed a new 1-yr agreement at her local Verizon Store, picking up a Moto V265 phone. She's happy with the Verizon part of this, but not so happy with the V265 part of this (the sound quality seems to be a bit lacking).

Basically, she's thinking of exchanging the V265 under the 15-day trial period for another phone (probably a Samsung 670). She could do this at the VZW store obviously, but there is a 3rd party agent who could give her a much better price on the phone, and toss in a bunch of free accessories to boot.

So my question is, can she return the phone to the VZW store under the 15-day trial, ...

The problem is that your friend would have to return the V265 at the direct store. In doing so, the direct store would have to close the activated account. 3rd party retailers can not and will not take direct store returns.

If she keeps open the activated account, the 3rd party retailer will not be able to sell her a phone. The 3rd party store will NOT get credit for selling that phone because they did not run the application. They would be unable to sell her a phone.

Unfortunately since she activated at the VZW direct store, she has to stay with them until she gets an upgrade (after the 1 year plan is up).

Do you forsee a problem if she simply returns the phone to the VZW store & closes the account, and then opens a new account at a 3rd party store?(as schnoezjit suggested)

Yes, there are problems with this scenario too.
1. This is a ported number. If the original account is closed, the ported number will revert back to the original carrier and be lost (unless you go back to that carrier, reopen an account, get lucky enough to get the same number again, and start the process all over).
2. Indirect agents are still taking a risk. Running a credit application will still show that there was service under the name/SS# at some point and the agent may be denied commission for creating a false churn. Not to say this will happen, but it could happen and it ultimately depends if the agent thinks they can get away with it.

Did some more research on this; apparently, if she can get a 'No Install' status on her acct from the VZW store and cancels, it should be easy to open a new acct with the 3rd party.

Big 'if', though.

Have her close the new acct and have the agent notate the acct that the equipment was returned. After closing the acct, open a new acct w/ the third party seller. Just tell your friend to not get up set if she receives two bills in one month, because she will receive a bill for the original acct for they days she did use the service and then another bill for the new acct that was created.

I reccomend not going to a third party seller, they usually have a consumer sign another contract besides the one for VZW; return policy can be difficult, warranty replacement can be difficult, phone warranty can be void if thrid party accesories are used

I reccomend having your friend go to the actual VZW store where she bought the Moto and have her ...

How does it work with VZW, though as far as closing and re-opening? At T-Mobile, if an account is closed we HAVE to re-open that same one if the customer has cancelled and is wanting to return within 90 days. A new one cannot be created for purposes of giving another dealer the sale. IT could technically be fought through the sales channels and the commission could be re-directed, I suppose, but it wouldnt be easy. Also, ported numbers-very sensative...Is there a certain time frame to which she could cancel and reopen with another dealer, still keep her port-in number or is there a chance it could be lost?
