Buying a phone at retail w/ no contract extension
Can I still purchase a new phone (the i760 is what I have in mind) at the full retail price and not extend my contract or deal with hassles of the salesmen trying to extend my contract? First off I am still on an older family plan $79 for 1000 min. that I share w/ my wife. We both use a combined average of 800 min/month. Now I dont want to go to a 700 min plan and pay overages. And why should I pay an extra $10 to get 1400 min (400 extra meaningless minutes since I will still be doing only 800ish /month)? So I figure I buy the phone and throw it on my current plan.
Also, why is it that you cant just buy the phone retail and walk out of the store without activating it? When I bought an XV6700 last year for retail, the rep said I must acti...

Question 1 - Yes, you may purchase full retail w/ no contract extension.
Question 2 - You used to have to activate it, now you do not. There is a limit at the number of phones you can buy without activation (because you seem like a scammer if you bought 10) but one will be fine.

Also, no sane representative is going to try to talk you into a contract extension. There's nothing for us to gain unless you're within 4 months of the end of your contract.

What about the thing he said about NE2, can u actually buy a new phone at retail and then get the NE2 in another 8 months i think is when he said it was? i thought if you bought a new phone it would cancel the NE2 and you wouldnt get that discount until 2 years after he bought the new phone. How does that work?

Receiving a subsidized price on a phone is what resets your NE2. If you buy a phone at full retail, then you still have your NE2 eligibility coming to you.

You can purchase a phone at retail value (no contract extension).
You can keep the 1000 minute share plan (even if you were extending your agreement).
You must activate the phone even at retail purchase because the POS system is setup to be streamlined. To complete the order the rep clicks the Activate/Submit button. If he didn't press that it wouldn't activate your phone, but it'd leave his order pending, which is a no no.
You're NE2 date will remain the same since you're not discounting your phone. When you do use your NE2 it will require a renewal though (rate plan change or not your choice).
I think that answers all of them. I read some repsonses on here which were wrong, so I thought I should set it straight (mainly the acti...
