Mogul without data plan?
The whole purpose of me gettin the mogul is to use it for notes when i go to school. I type faster than I write (plus sleepy notes are hard to read). But I figured its more convenient to get a smartphone. (no keeping up with two separate devices) Now im freaking out because I dont want to use any dammmm data plan but I'm REQUIRED to get one? It's bad enough Vzw is milkin me for what I got already and I dont even use the full 450 mins I'm paying for! Any way to get around that data plan crap. I was thinking gettin it on ebay then activating it online myself. any ideas?

No need to get snippy... as of 9/5/07, this phone is NOT on Verizon's approved device list. While we may pick it up in the future, as of now it is not supported by VZW.

The Mogul isn't yet available on Verizon service, and you can't activate a Sprint one that you could buy off eBay. Either you misinterpreted what he said, or you don't actually know what you're talking about.
Also, you're not REQUIRED to get a data plan - you can go pay-as-you-go (get it for the first day to get the extra $100 off), and then manually block data from the phone so that you don't accidentally use it. The only problem with that is that it will prevent you from getting MMS messages.
Also, aren't you afraid that your teachers/professors are going to think you're text messaging all through class? 🤣

I've also been wondering about that as well. I was thinking about getting this one when it comes out so that I can have better access to email (and WM6). I currently use the enV's mobile email, but Outlook would be better. Does anyone know if a data plan is required for this one like the blackberries?

With Verizon you have options for data. Any PDA/Smartphone will require some data feature. 1) You can block completely... which will interfere with ones abilitiy to send/rec pictures 2) Data Package 10MB or Unl and 3) Pay as you go per KB @ $.015/KB. If you don't want to pay for a package then go on pay as you go and quit crying.

VZW doesn't carry the Mogul. In you chat session, you did not mention the Mogul. You just may want to be more concise with your questions before you blast others...

I apologize for getting snippy. I'm just learning about smartphones because I intend to purchase one (obviously). So let me explain a bit more. ASSUMING I am correct that the xv6800 will be released in Oct. I did not know if it was absolutely final that a data & voice plan is required to use a smartphone using vzw's service as the website leads you to believe, period, no questions asked. I never asked anything regarding the phone, I was inquiring about the services offered with PDA's. I sm insulted by people telling me that the xv6800 is not currently available. I am not that ignorant and I never asked. Again I apologize to those I have offended. Also I didn't ask the rep. in the chat about the "mogul" because I know that it is not out yet...

I really hope nobody in Verizon Wireless is giving you dates like it's official because nobody's been told on the floor level. Any documents you've seen were leaks and not final anyways.
The reason why a Blackberry can't be sold without data is because of an agreement between RIM and Verizon Wireless making the requirement so. There's currently no such agreement between Microsoft or the phone makers with VZW for any such requirement.

You just don't get the $100 advanced data device discount. On the website, the discount is already included so you just have to add it back to the price.
