Verizon Tech Confirms Software Issue with W385 & KRZR K1m

Hello Everyone,

I talked to a Verizon tech in the Chicago area about the issues with the new flash UI found on the Moto W385 and the KRZR K1m. The issues are:

1. No indication to tell you what is the current selected ringtone.

2. No easy way to toggle from ring to vibrate mode, and vice versa.

He confirmed that this is not right and will follow the proper channels to inform Motorola that a software update needs to be done to correct these issues.

Note: These are the only 2 phones that VZW carries that has these issues, and the tech confirms that it was Motorola's blunder, and that it should have been caught somewhere in testing.

Sound familiar, Motorola, such as the days following the release of the buggy V325?

Not surprised at all...moto's have been pretty poor in terms of quality control over the past 3 years. Buy LG'S!

That's strange, I didn't think that the KRZR's had the flash ui, in fact I'm almost positive they don't. I will share my own weird experience with Motorola software issues, though. Here's the jist of it, we're the only Verizon store in town that does in store repairs on phones (meaning we tear those suckers apart, replace screens, speakers, keypads, housings, fix water damaged phones, we do basically any type of repair on any phone though we do only sell Verizon, we try not to discriminate) so over the past couple of months we've been having people bring in glitch RAZR's (go figure), the strange part about it is that its almost always the v3m pink razrs that have software issues. The only remedy we have found thus far is the flash the pho...

The tech confirmed that the KRZR uses the same UI as the W385.

either the tech has never seen a krzr or he's blind, there is different software on the krzr than there is on the w385, trust me i sell these phones everyday and do software upgrades/repairs/modding on a daily basis with most phones i sell, hence i'm familiar with their os/ui

Just because some local Tech decides that something is an "issue", doesn't mean that the engineers or designers at the manufacturer or carrier have the same opinion.

You posted this same rant earlier when you slammed this phone in a review, i really don't understand.

1. when you tap one of the volume keys the left softkey says "play" that will play your current ringtone. if you are talking about in the menu, go to setting and sounds, the first option is master volume where you can check volume setting and play current ringtone? Not that hard..really

2. just open the phone and hit down on your volume and you will get vibrate only in about 2 sec's. If you are talking about the hold star key down that is a lg shortcut, and the 385 does not allow the volume shortcut on the volume keys with the phone shut like old motos, but this is good because i always turned my ringer off on older models while in po...

Apparently there is another bug in this phone. Sometimes the inside screen stays lit all the time when you close the phone and this drains the battery FAST. The only way to reset this is to power off the phone and power it back on. I don't know about anyone else, but I use the phone for work, I am an Information Technology tech. I need a reliable phone and I don't know of too many people that would call a phone like this reliable.

I saw the "bug" issue about the W385 screen staying on when flip is closed in HoFo and that it is a known bug. It is not just my phone.

I am considering going with the Sammy U540. I know you tried that phone and had issues, but I don't use the speakerphone much. How was battery life with the standard battery? Also, when I tried that phone in the store, the earpiece sounded muffled and not clear. Was yours like this?

I would appreciate your feedback, I HAVE TO get rid of this POS LG 4650.

Thanks.

Well, if you read my PhoneScoop review of the u540, you know about how it often causes echo issues on the other end when you use speakerphone.

That said, it was a good phone otherwise. I don't know what the battery life is with the standard battery 'cuz I used the extended battery. With the extended, batt life is GREAT. You get over 6 hours talk time, no prob, and that's not just theory... one evening I checked the call logs and I had talked nearly 5 hours that day and didn't kill the battery. 🙂

However, on the u540 forum and in reviews, some ppl have complained about the battery life while using the standard battery, which is a LOT smaller than the extended batt (only 800 mAh vs the extended's 1420 mAh). If you went u540, I...

hmmm, mine shuts off. Maybe I got a good shipment, but i have had no issues. Or maybe people haven't brought them back because your screen will shut off anyway after 7secs, so i guess it would only really affect a person if they have there backlight set to always on, whisch is stupid anyway because it burns your battery up faster and makes the side of your face hot after a couple minutes of talking.
