What's the next best carrier? Changing for a better phone

Brancieri

I'm finally seriously considering switching to another carrier with better phones. My family is behind me and my company will switch shortly after. What is the next best for service. I'm mostly in LA and do some traveling in Southern California, Nevada and Northeast a few time during the year.

Thanks for the input.

I would try ATT and see how they perform for you, if you are in an area that doesn't sound like you're using a SCR-536 walkie talkie then you just might be g2g.

On the west coast... T-mobile. They're rated extremely high on the westcoast market. Give them a try plus they have some good rate plans.

Chris,

I am in Chicago and am currently with Verizon and considering porting to ATT. What issues does ATT have in Chicago?

Thanks for your help.

What phone do you want so bad that is making you want to switch. Att really doesnt have anything that great except for the curve and the iphone. And VZW should have the curve in a few months.

This whole phone things is getting so ridiculous and overrated...most people that leave wind up coming back anyway...

ask ArmySF and Platypus what they thought about porting.

Good Luck man!

It does not matter what phone the OP wants if he likes a certain phone then big deal, you bitch about verizon phones too! plus maybe he is another one who is sick of the crippled crap phones, or wants the convenience of the sim card etc...att has more than just the curve and iphone, have you seen the frigin N75 that phone kicks ass. not trying to jump on you chris but damn

fair enough...but Im just sick of people shouting from the rooftops about how great everyone elses phones are...i just don't think they are that great. Last time i was in a att store i walked out shaking my head wondering how people were so hung up on their phones...

Verizon has some excellent offerings and in my opinion they offer a better store experience, better customer care, better reception, and you can insure ALL phones. If all you care about is how a phone looks, then maybe you would be happy with Att...personally, im willing to deal with a lil crippling in order to get a better total cell phone experience

The N75 is a sweet phone though, I really can't argue with ya on that one 😎

Again I don't mean to PO anybody here, that is very easy to do online but my wife and I and I just learned today my parents are not entirely thrilled lately either with too much from Verizon.
Coverage in Charlotte NC has taken a HUGE nosedive. I created a "trouble ticket" and after a few days Verizon did call me back to say we "now" live in a marginal area with no plans for improvements through 2008!! $hit, we live in the center of Charlotte not the sticks.

Now on to phones....this is where I go off the deep end. ALL Verizon phones SUCK! How do I know, I've tried every top of the line phone they have offered in the past 18 months and had issues with every single one of them. The latest is the 8700 that makes a terrible high frequency ch...

I have been saying this all along. I was in havelock nc when I tried verizon. The hole town was marginal. they just started selling service in the area about 2 years ago.

Now to defend them it does take time to build out. Now to play the other side don't sell service until you have insured your customers can get good service. At least like they can elsewhere verzion is!

I agree totally. The only phone I would consider trying with Verizon would be a V3M. This is one of the few phones you can get that still has a messed call reminder beep that will beep every few minutes to let you know if you have a messed call. Pretty handy if the phone is sitting on a table somewhere and you are away in another room for for a while, then come back.

If it was determined by a trouble ticket that you live in a maginal coverage area you would have been offered to cancel service without a termination fee.

Using your phone in an area where service doesnt work doesnt mean the phone suck, it means the place you are trying to use them in does.
I own an LG8700, mine does not make any chime noise or background hiss.. nor has any other one I have used.

As for the UI, yes you live in USA that is why you are able to have a phone and pick where you get that phone from. No one put a gun to your head, stuck a contract in front of you and forced you to sign it.
Maybe someday you will leave the hole in the ground you live in and join the rest of the world that uses standardized systems. If you e...

I have Verizon, personal, and AT$T, work, in the LA area. I have seen a great improvement in AT&T's coverage over the past three years. I have not seen any change in Verizon's coverage over the same time period but it was always pretty good but there are still a few dead spots that have been there since day 1.

Well sprint is the second best as far as performance goes, they are the only one to use a cdma network. GSM companys are all going to be changing over to the superior system for but now as long as you dont mind droped calls ATT is the way to go.

In Chicago T-Mobile is waaaay better than ATT. From what I have noticed it seems that T-mobile gets more bars in more places than Verizon. 5 have both Verizon and T-mobile and I live in Chicago, T-mobile gets better coverage for me. I tried ATT and the Iphone and it was nothing but dropped calls even in areas where it would show full bars on the phone. It was horrible!! I have many friends here in Chicago that say the same thing ATT stinks.

I would hope t-mobile would get more bars in more places, if they didnt they would ba having a major problem.. seems how their phones use a 5bar scale instead of 4 bars and you need a stronger signal with GSM to have an acceptable call.
