Airplane/Standalone/Music mode

Hi everyone,
One of my friends was traveling by airplane the other day. He said he had his phone on standalone mode for music, but the flight attendant made him turn it off completely.

So I was wondering, as far as I can tell, there should be no problem if the transceiver on the phone is turned off (since it's not transmitting). I'll be traveling in a couple of weeks, so I wanted to know - I want to watch movies on my enV while on the plane using my bluetooth stereo headset. Will there be any problem if I do this with my phone on standalone/music mode? Or with using bluetooth stereo headset?

And if I do have a problem, what's the best way to handle it? I don't want to cause a commotion, but there shouldn't be a problem since t...

While most phones do have a "Flight Mode",

because of 9/11 most airlines do not allow any cellular device to be on during flight.

This gives the peice of mind to the crew and the passengers.

Which brings me to this question.

Who the hell came up with the ATT comercial all the cell phones being used on a plane? Is it just me or does this comercial not make sense? Maybe I am thinking about it too hard?

Lol, ive seen that commercial and I thought the exact same thing.

But yeah your right, about the not having the phone on regardless of "airplane" mode, the flight crew doesnt want to have to check every individual phone that is on to make sure its on "flight mode" correctly. They just say "turn off all phones", which I understand.

Thinking of selling out my share of the business to my brothers. I'm bored out of my skull sitting around here. I'm considering applying with the Port of Seattle PD.

Study after study has proven that cell phones do not cause interference with navigation equipment and are perfectly safe for use on aircraft. If they were really dangerous, they would confiscate them at the security checkpoints.

When the Wireless networks and airlines can agree on the method to collect and split revenue from cell phone usage, you will see it legalized.

By-the-way, doesn't anyone besides me see the stupidity of not letting someone use their phone as a music player when it is in standalone mode?

Your not alone there I didn't understand that one at all. I thought it was going to be for some service they were offering where you could use your phone on the plane.

Some plans actually have repeaters on them that will allow phone calls to be made, however its a freaking fortune to do it because your using the planes repeater since the phones signal will not connect that high up in the air, last I heard it was $4.99+ a minute to use the phone on the airlines that had them.

I have never had a problem with using my phone on a plane for music. I have the enV also and while listening to music with it open or closed its obvious it is a phone. Nobody has ever said anything to me.

Cell phones dont work more then a couple hundred feet in the air, I say let people turn on their phones, its not going to do any good, its only going to kill the battery in about an hour from it searching for signal constantly
