what is the deal? has anyone heard anything out of verizon at all lately?

i know they never release details as far as release dates go, but i swear ever since the INEEDATTENTION phone came out not a peep as far as what they May be offering in the future. I'm not even talking about the prada. [and I'm sorry redone chocolate phones don't count as new]. you guys think they are just going apples route and keeping quite till they release something big? or do you think they just don't have anything up their sleeve?????

When has Verizon EVER made a big deal about a phone to be released in the future? I can't think of a single phone that they've ever talked about.

the new chocolate is AWESOME. its so much better then the first (and only 100$ with 3g suck on that apple) that it does count as new

I agree that it is time for Verizon to let their customers know what we can expect in the near future. The choc2 and renamed Prada do not excite me at all either.
My contract is up with them in early August and I am thinking I will move on if I don't hear that something promising is in the works. I use a Motorola Q and I hate it. Want something better but as of now not much to choose from with Verizon.

So go somewhere else. Seriously, there's no reason to stay with a certain carrier if you're unhappy with it. Try a different carrier. If you like them better, then stay with them. If you like Verizon better, port back to Verizon. There's no point in feeling self pity because you don't know what phones Verizon will be releasing in the future.

Grow up! Self pity? Give me a break! Those are your words, not mine. I am just agreeing with many, many others that it is time for Verizon to put out some kind of press release so that their customers can be informed as to what may or may not be in the works. It is marketing 101, keep the customer informed.
I am happy with Verizon's cs and network which is why I am hoping they will offer a product that is exciting and can compete with the i(want something like it)phone. That is not a lot for their customers to expect. Whoever is running their show has screwed up big time and I am certian we will see heads rolling.
You neeed to stop preaching here. Go to rightous.com!

I'm not preaching anything. If you're unhappy, go somewhere else. Verizon will eventually get the message. If you're unhappy but stay with Verizon, they won't care enough to make any changes. We really won't know the effects of the iPhone until the third and fourth quarter numbers. Until then, I don't see Verizon making any changes. They had the lowest churn rate. Why would they change anything?

Jul 7, 2007, 4:39 PM
I never said I was unhappy, just looking for information. That is what these forums are for.
Verizon's churn rate was low pre iphone. We'll see, time will tell. Personally I wouldn't buy a 1st gen phone but 500,000 other did.

There is plenty of information on this site. We know about the new Q that's coming to Verizon. The 6800 will be out soon. We don't have anything that's similar to the iPhone coming out, but again, I don't see Verizon trying to obtain something similar until the market speaks (Q3 and Q4 numbers).

The market spoke! 500,000 iphones in a few days and the undeniable popularity of ipods.
1)73% of all households in US have cell phone accounts.
2)Nearly 49 million ipods sold in US, 100 million world wide.

The corporate execs do not need to wait for the actual numbers. It is obvious. Verizon needs to to counter launch with some info for its customers. Very simple.

Jul 7, 2007, 5:01 PM
They need to see what effect it has on the market though. They sold 500,000 phones in 48 hours, but how many of those were returned? How many people are going to give up on AT&T and switch back to a different carrier? There are a lot of long-term factors that you're not considering.
...
Rlest8

Jul 7, 2007, 5:36 PM
Of course they need to see the long term effects. All indications are that the iPhone will be a hit. I am simply stating it is now time for Verizon to "throw a bone" to its customers. Not that difficult.

Jul 8, 2007, 10:40 AM
verizon doesnt need to "throw a bone" to anyone...you guys just have to complain about everything. robtheman is right, they need to see what effect the iphone really has on the industry. And you can't see that in 2 days (and yes I know they sold 500K). If they wait they can release a true iphone killer and make sure of all of the down falls of the iphone are fixed on a vzw touchscreen phone

If they did release a statement, all you people on this site would just complain about how they released a statement, but the phone isnt actually out. And then when it comes out, you will complain about how its not good enough.

Just be patient, and if you don't feel like this is the carrier for you, then port.

No one is complaining. Just looking for info. and doing some research. But can't even agree with the original post or inquire without all of you Verizon groupies getting defensive. Suggesting to port is so lame and weak.

Verizon owes it to its customers to inform and then offer the latest and most advanced phones (no I'm not talking iphone). And you are wrong, if they released a statement then perhaps some of those 500,000 at&t people would come back especially because of at&ts awful network and the battery problem with iPhone. And the current Verizon customers like myself and many other who getting frustrated with their poor phone choices would be hopeful that something worth waiting for is in the works and perhaps be confident ab...

you dont even know how many people ported and you already want to win them back??? This is why you arent a CEO or a VP or marketing. Verizon will be fine in the long run and they know this. They don't have to do anything. They have a strategic plan and they can't just abandon that because att released the iphone.

I understand your frustration and you want info, but Verizon has a plan and they have goals. And just because your ideals theirs might not align, doesnt mean they're doing something wrong.

And the reason why everyone is saying "port" is because your initial argument sucks. What do you want? Some verizon ceo to stand in front of podium and spout out release dates so you feel more confident about ur cell carrier? Please, ...

I'm work for an indirect Verizon store. AT&T doesn't work where I live so personally, I could care less about the iPhone. They really do need to wait to see the impact that it has on the market. Just because something is hyped up doesn't mean that people are going to buy and/or keep it. I think I read someone say that there have been 300,000 returns so far.

No wonder your comments are so biased. What a loyal employee. This is the new millinium and the numbers are in...1/2 million in just a week. Surely those numbers will continue to climb. You read where that there ahave been 300,000 returns? That is BS. If that was even close to the truth, that would have been all over sites like cNET, here, all over.
I do admire your employer loyalty. Wish I had more like you!

"We don't have anything that's similar to the iPhone coming out, "

It was the "we" at the start of the sentence. I have nothing against Verizon at all. Been with them for 12 years. Don't want a 1st gen iPhone either. Just really believe that Verizon needs to start dangling some carrots in light of the iPhone craze. Why not? What harm could it do? They are long over due to offer a new smartphone not a redone Q or chocalate. I have done a ton of research and either they don't have anything coming out that is worthy or they are keeping a tight lid on it. Just looking for info and agreeing with the original post.

What harm could it do? Not much. Unless they end up with another Chocolate which got a lot of advertising and ended up with a lot of problems/disgruntled customers.

I'm just telling you not to get your hopes up. I seriously doubt their methods will change unless the iPhone has a HUGE impact. Nice phones have come out in the past. I don't think that Verizon will be changing their policies unless they see a damaging, long term effect.

Jul 7, 2007, 6:09 PM
Changing what policies? Policies that don't keep their customers wondering when a new products will be available. Policies that aren't keeping up with the times in terms of available technologies? If that proves to be the case they will lose many. And you may not want to believe it but the iPhone is and will have a huge impact! I will stay with Verizon if and only if they can deliver the latest and greatest products. I don't think I am the only customer feeling this way. Many others like myself may just be waiting for their contract to expire. For me it is next month. I do hope they make some announcements before then. If not it's adios for me.

What, do you expect Verizon Wireless to start jumping up and down, saying "I swear we've got something like the iPhone coming out soon! Oh, we're so scared of the iPhone. Please, have mercy!" No, Verizon Wireless is treating the iPhone like it's no big deal. Because it isn't. The CEO of Verizon Wireless, Lowell McAdam already addressed the iPhone issue. He basically said it is a good product, but one device is not everything. A great phone can only be as great as the network that backs it.

As we all know, ATT's network...especially their "excrutiatingly slow" data network as one reviewer put it, leaves much to be desired. Not to mention, Verizon Wireless has many phones that will already do many of the same things the iPhone will do and ...

It is simply a matter of keeping up with the competion, attempting to offer competive products and keeping loyal subscribers. The fact that 500,000 phones sold by apple/at&t in just a few days speaks volumes and has many corporate execs sacred.

What would you expect the Verizon execs to say? The CEO of Verizon addressed the iphone craze like it was no big deal because they want you, the Verizon customer to think that it is nothing special but guess what, it is.

I am just saying it would be nice to know if/when they will be releasing anything exciting soon. I did not want to get into some stupid debate with Verizon cult people like you. Get a life.

Actually, I work for Verizon. I'm not a "Verizon-cult" person. Why did the tone of your message go south by the end of it?? At the beginning you were presenting a rational argument with considerable points and by the end of it, out of the blue you tell me to get a life? WTF??? As far as wondering if Verizon will be releasing "anything exciting".....do you think we would be the second largest company, who is just about to pass the first largest company if we didn't ALREADY have exciting phones??? I am telling you as a person in the business, THE IPHONE IS NO BIG DEAL! Sure it is a nice phone/multimedia device but the voice and data network that backs the phones capabilities is crap. Period. Your the one with the tone problem. I am just looking for information as to what can/cannot be expected and all of you Verizon employess are so defensive!

You are a loyal employee and I have a very strong and successful background in marketing and consumer products. I know Verizon passed on the iPhone with some legit reasons. How many companies actually tell you whats coming out in the future? Its all hear say. Meh... release dates are always going to slide around some, they're not always going to be accurate.

However, even given that, the spreadsheet did say that July 9 would be the release date for a new LG Chocolate, and that it would come in Red, Black, and Blue.

Sure enough, the new Chocolate did launch today, in Black Cherry ('Red'), Black, and 'Blue Mint'. So it seems like the doc in question wasn't just made up by someone. 👀

opinion-- Wether Verizon has something new to come out with or not, they are not really going to say much. I mean, is this something really new? How many overhyped phones has AT&T and other carriers come out with during the last few years. Lets go back the Razor when Cingy first came out with it, the Rokr, the Pearl, the Curve. Seriously quarter after quarter Verizon has the most net adds of any carrier for at least the last two years. Ive been at Verizon two years. Verizon is not worried about the IPHONE. Please believe me.
