New phone going back - what else?

I received the 8600 nearly a couple weeks ago and overall I really like it. The PHONE part of it is great. However, I wasn't aware of the lack of support for Vista and WMP 11. I haven't been able to find ANY fixes for this (and I'm not about to learn some kind of hacker skills to do it either). I bought the music essentials kit assuming I could transfer mp3's from my computer to the phone. That's a no go. The phone has been out since late last year and Vista has been out since early this year. I'm very disapointed in the lack of support at this point, which gives me an uneasy feeling when thinking of using this phone for the next couple years. I finally wanted a music phone, but this might not be it.

Anyway, if I take it with me to a Veri...

well...i would think the 8550 would be totally compatible since it's an updated product. the 8600 came out before the final release of Vista. but i never thought LG wouldn't update the drivers later on.

for any experienced customers or employees, what kind of negotiating leverage do i have with Verizon, if any at all? i'm disapointed in Verizon offering a $30 music kit that won't work with a phone without any kind of disclaimer. however, allowing me a straight across trade-in for an 8550 might make it all better 😎 haha

You're not going to find any Verizon phone that has Vista compliant software at this point. It looks like July 11th is the pinpointed date for the new updates.

My question though, is why are you trying to use the music esentials kit? It's really much much easier and quicker with a card and card reader. Simply put your MP3's on the card in the My Music folder and you're all set. It's also much quicker this way.

Forgot about that...And that is right. I show people that way here in my showroom. I have a laptop with a card reader slot. I will demo the capability to do the transfers and people usually go with that.

i know, but i figured i would like the headphones as well since i don't own a pair. i bought it for a third of the price Verizon offers. i wouldn't have paid the $30. but i also thought the cable would be a more stable option as opposed to removing the tiny little microsd card all the time, which might eventually break with so many removals.

but i'm also a little annoyed that Verizon is selling these kits to customers, knowing they won't work with certain phones/operating systems. with the new 8550 being offered at $99, i'm going to see if they won't just upgrade me to that phone (return my 8600 since i'm within the 30 days still). the price difference is only $20. considering the inconvenience and wasted expense i've gone through, i don...

now is this something that's confirmed or just speculation? i'd go for it at $99 😉

honestly though, i think that's a fair price for what's only an updated version of a product that's been out for a year.
