Upgrading from Moto E815, need recommendations.

I got the E815 the day it was released in July 2005. I've loved the phone, except for the kind of large size and the ringers being accidentally adjusted from the side buttons when the flip is closed. It constantly gets turned to mute in my purse. Now it's time for my "new every two". I live in Baltimore, so no VCAST TV yet, but I would be interested if it becomes available. I use my VCAST internet service alot, since I travel for work. I check my hotmail account several times/day. What is the latest and greatest? Money isn't my biggest consideration. I think I want to stick with a flip, since I like throwing it in my purse and don't want something with an external screen to be scratched. Also like small, so I don't want to be walki...

The e815 is a pretty good phone. If you need to upgrade and use VCast the LG VX8300 is the next best thing. It does have an External Screen though, but if you buy a leather case you would have to worry about it. If you stay with Moto, RAZR Maxx Ve would a choice, but the battery life will be less. I don't think there is any VCast flip without an External Screen

I just meant the non-flip type of external screen, which is your primary read-out. The secondary external screens on flips etc. don't bother me. I was looking at the samsung dual direction flips, but reviews are all over the board.

the A990 is expensive and is not very reliable for signal, If you stay in a Great Coverage area all the time then the A990 will be good, but if you go to a good to marginal coverage, expect dropped calls.

I upgraded my E-815 to a Slvr 3 weeks ago. So far, I've been happy with it, including the battery life and signal. I'm on my 5th day since charging with about 30 mins talk time on it and BT enabled from 6:30 AM until 6 PM (this drains, that's why I mentioned it). The longest I went on battery on my E-815 was 5 days, and that was near the end with the extended-life battery.

The Krzr is the flip equivalent.

i definitely recommend the LG 8300 as well. That is by far the best phone I have ever used on any carrier. It is a very solid phone and you won't be disappointed.

I currently use an E815 and my wife an 8300. They are both in my opinion the two best phones ever offered by Verizon. However, if she wants to “upgrade” from an E815, I assume she wants something with more updated styling. Both the 815 and 8300 are older style, somewhat larger, silver/gray clamshells. Going from E815 to 8300 not a huge upgrade anyway, gain better music controls, maybe a little nicer styling and a slightly better camera, but end up with a less useful UI and perhaps lose a little in reception quality.

KRZR or 8600 might be more what she's looking for.

Am I the only one that didn't like the E815? I had that phone for a year, and I ended up buying something else at full retail because I couldn't stand it any more. That phone is total junk. I went through 3 of them. They all power cycled on their own. They shut off when you receive text messages. Towards the end of my time with the last one, it started shutting itself off in the middle of phone calls. Not to mention the Motorola charge port on it. Seriously, the E815 was terrible in comparison to every other phone I've ever had including my Motorola V260.

I had mine for 2 years with only one problem, charging became finicky in the last 6 months but not in the way many see. It would just restart in a loop until I blew dust or something off the charge port, then it was good again.

Hey I'm in Baltimore too! 😎

I'd recommend the LG 8300 or 8600.
