Verizon!!!! get the Motorola RAZR V3 in your lineup
Why the heck are all the truly innovative phones GSM. Verizon my be the best US carrier(based on coverage), but its users are treated like second class citizens. If you don't believe me got to the list phone manufacters, then do a tally of which phones are CDMA and which are GSM. You'll find few and I mean few are CDMA. Since Verizon users usually pay more for their service. We should expect their best phone selection. We can't ...

GSM is open sourced. No patents and pretty much no regulations on how to make the phone work. Kind of like a Linux operating system.
Also as to GSM technology.. It is a standardized system in Eurasia. In most
Countries they are unable to have any other form of cell phone tech. This makes a GSM phone alot easier for manufacturers to make. They do not have to make the phone for ONE CDMA carrier (VZW) and another for ANOTHER CDMA carrier (SprintPCS) then yet a 3rd one for ATTWS then a 4th one for Cingular. Granted ATTWS and Cingular are the same signal..... But unless you have an unlocked phone you cannot ...

As for the long process to get a phone to customers. That's why Verizon's service is the way it is. They take extra precautions to make sure that everything is going to work the way it should. If it isn't 100% perfect they will scrap it. They don't want to degrade the network or give customers a horrible phone.

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Now thats funny.
Or hell [Verizon] could just go GSM.
Uhh... wouldn't that cost billions? 😳
In any case, GSM vs CDMA is a trade-off. GSM gets a wider phone selection (because Europe is all GSM, i.e. bigger market for GSM phones than CDMA), and the SIM card thing is handy, but CDMA seems more tolerant of weaker signals, which, all else being equal, seems to make for better coverage and bettter reception inside buildings. CDMA also seems to drop fewer calls, and CDMA systems can handle a higher volume of calls.
Also, Verizon is now releasing some darn good phones... nothing quite as nice-looking as the RAZR, but some good phones.
Given the trade-offs, I chose CDMA. Lotta ppl seem to feel the same way, since VZW is #1 and...

I finally got to see the Motorola RAZR V3 at the Digital Life Expo in NYC, and all I can say is that the phone is just awesome. The display is so sharp and clear. The displays pixel density is looks like its HD TV next to V710. This phone is definitely on my wish list. One problem. Its only a GSM phone. Arrrgh!!!!

Verizon takes forever to get "new phones" and their plans cost more and they give less minutes on their America's Choice Plan.
As for coverage, GSM is close to par with CDMA. I don't live in the "outback".
Verizon, I have you for three more months, show me what you got!

I have to agree here. My service with Verizon is up 1/05. If by that time there aren't any quality new phones available, I'll go to GSM.

Its as simple as this: If Verizon wants to carry a V3 variant for CDMA, Motorola will make one for them. And, if the V3 is a big seller, Verizon will consider a phone of this type. Who knows? Maybe something is in the works already.
Its not like only Moto would be able to make them, forever and ever amen. 😉
