I would guess that since your contract doesn't change until you swap handsets (physically swap), then you would want to do this first, because if you've already renewed by swapping your equipment, then it would become null and void the way I read it.

WAIT! If there is a pending order the one month free WILL NOT WORK. Therefore you should do the website process WELL before the phone upgrade is processed. This is a promotion that ENDS MARCH 31. After 3/31/07 it is GONE! Quite possibly forever! I recommend doing the website process NOW and letting the credits hit. THEN do the NE2 because according to everything I've seen the offers "can NOT be combined" 😉

This must be done before any other action which requires a service agreement extension/renewal is done, no exceptions.
Also this does not affect your ability to take advantage of your phone upgrade/NE2 offer either, however this does need to be done first.
After agreeing to the 2 yr service agreement online, it can take up to 5 business days for this to actually show on an account, and you'll want to wait to process your other transactions until it is fully complete. The credit will appear within 2 bill cycles and the credit is applied to any current charge, it does not get applied to a past due bala...
