Family Plan 7 Death in the Family
If someone in the family has passed away, is their any penalty if I remove his line from the family plan?

Depends on the CS rep you get. I've had it go either way. (with friends with Verizon, I don't sell the stuff myself)

Depends. If the account is under that person's name, then no. If he was just the person that used the phone, then it's still under the alive account holder's name. Technically, you would still be charged the ETF. You might get the right person that can waive the ETF for you (you'd have to fax in death certificates and whatnot), but I doubt it.

if the main account holder has passed away, then you need to go to a store and show them a copy of the death certificate, they'll fax it over. It will waive the cancellation fee, but you will still be prorated for the month.

I think it really does depend on the rep you get. If the account is in your name, then technically you would still be responsible for it. But I've called in for customers in this situation and been able to get the line cancelled with no ETF.
And they don't require a copy of the death certificate anymore.

do you think that's funny?

You may get it credited if the person's name is listed as an authorized user. You WILL need a copy of the death certificate however. The need for the certificate or some other proof of death at one point was not needed, but has been a requirement again for about a year now. Also, no need to go to the store. Customer service can handle the situation and will either have you fax or mail the certificate to the necessary department.
