new phone preliminaries.... 6255

6255

top is heavier than bottom, causing a recoil effect when you open it, the bottom feels cheap but the top is heavy like a mofo. slow camera time, if i take a picture it goes to "saving image" with a white screen it then takes the picture a couple seconds later, if i move the phone it will take a picture of the new direction. As in, if i take a picture of the wall, while it is saying saving image, if i move it slightly down before the shutter sound, my new picture will be of the floor. which i do not need to tell you sucks. this may just be in the specific mode i had it in though (night mode) The phone is significantly bigger (and more square) than the 6100 and twice as heavy. this phone is not activated but i am worried about its 2 "b...

first of all, what is up with that charging port?! cant we learn the lesson of the v170 and not messup the standard charging port system? i like the bright blue keys. It has a (relatively) loud speaker just as loud as the 266 and much louder than the soho. crappy pictures (like the 265). good signal strength, better than the 8910, less than the 266. overall a good number 3 as far as our camera phones go. I would sell it over the 6255 any day, but for only $20 less i would suggest the 266 unless those turn out defective like the 262/265.

definite improvement from the soho, better reception and.... symmetry, they keys look better in blue than that fading red and the speaker is louder than the soho, this is still a bare bones phone but a lot better than the soho, so a good replacement is a good new phone in my book.

something to add on the kx9 which is a general kyocera problem, if they are going to use the same batteries it is terribly underhanded of them to add a different piece of plastic on the end just so one battery will not work in another phone..... the phantom, the soho, the milan... etc all have the same battery but kyocera puts a non functional piece of plastic on the ends of the different phones, in different shapes creating a "key" which makes you have to get the specific battery and not have the posibility to use an older battery if you used to have.... say... the phantom...

Was just a thought. I've never seen what you're talking about specifically so i was imagining. We have a similar problem at work (I'm in IT) where we have two different models of laptop from the same vendor and the batteries are identical except one has a little nub of plastic on the end that prevents it from going into the other. In our case, cutting it off would work great and cause no difficulties so i thought maybe this would be the same.

well you probably are right, they battery doors do have a back on them which should secure it in place but i don't like to tinker because you could turn it into an old nokia phone (the way a good jolt would disconnect the battery from the phone contacts and shut it off)

EVERY time I get on this site it makes me so mad. We have already had SO many software issues with the kx16 that its not even funny. I dont even SHOW people that phone. And to sit there and say that the signal strength on that phone is good is a JOKE. the ONLY good thing about the phone IS the charging port. Yes it sucks that they dont match the rest of the kyocera's but they will hold up so much better. alejandro you're a fool

that's your opinion, and you are entitled to it, but when it comes down to it, i prefer a phone that shows its manufacturers defect in the 30 day trial period vs. the phone that shows it in 3 months.

I like the 6255. I got to hold one yesterday and play with it a bit at a Cellcom (i think that's what it was) booth in a mall. I didn't get to play with it enough to really get a feel for the interface unfortunately but i liked how it felt in my hand. I'm very much contemplating buying one but i'd have to purchase it outright since my contract renewal time doesn't come til late next summer. And i'm not that patient. If i purchase the phone outright, do i still have the option of bringing it back within 30 days if for some unimaginable reason i don't like it?

no, if you purchase a brand new phone it has no return policy as you will have made a "new" phone "used" and the instant it is activated is worth about $100 less than its retail value.

Ouch. Ok. I would assume i still get the standard warranty type of coverage though? if the phone suddenly falls apart in my hand i can bring it in and have it replaced? That would be manufacturer based i guess and be 1 year?

yes, still has a 1 year warranty, but i dont see why you like it so much, I used to have a 731, that phone was a nightmare and this one reminds me too much of it, even has the us cellular logo in the same exact spot.

I like it because i'm a feature freak and the other phones with good features are Moto phones and i can't stand moto phones for usability. The only other phones i really like are LG and the 6100 just doesn't cut it. If you know of any feature loaded LG's coming down the pipe I'd love to know because they'd be worth waiting for. I'm very picky. I need a phone that has great features, decent looks (unlike the soho for example), and most important, great UI. I had a nice audiovox...for a week. The phone was great for features and looks...but it SUCKED to use. Absolute nightmare. Nokia and LG are the two companies whose phones i've used and they've actually been pleasant to use. The 262 i'm using right now has me grinding my teeth and restrainin...

I do not feel that bluetooth is completely a fad technology. Currently its potential is barely being tapped and its uses are limited. It has some great possibilities. That is one big feature i like on the 6255 but the other is the MP3 player. It would be very convenient to have that in places i can't carry my iPod.

I'd also like to say that Bluetooth is not a fad. Since I've been with US Cellular I've only seen two phones with BT, the Moto v710 (which was GUTTED as far as BT capability) and the 6255.

I also forgot to mention that I like being able to type in my appointments, tasks and "TO DO's" in Outlook and have the transferred in seconds to the 6255. I loath Outlook, however, I just use it for convenience of the calendar and syncing.

bluetooth is the stupidest piece of over-hyped technology with a name that just makes me cringe for its stupidity. It may have more potential like other people say, but it is still crap, especially today.

Alejandro sometimes on RARE occasions you say something on here that is 1/2 way intelligent. Bluetooth may have a random name but who cares... it is NOT a FAD get over it. You saying that makes you sound so ignorant. do you know what having bluetooth can enble you to do? I have SO many customers that use and LOVE thier headsets. To put it in the same catogory as beanie babies and cabbage patch dolls and call it a fad is ridiculous.

Anyways I think we are getting a LG phone in the summer with bluetooth and the video and camera. The 6255i doesnt look pretty but it is def a high preforming phone with endless technology possibilities

I agree with you about the signal strength. In WI, it showed only two bars as well. Also the OK key is difficult to press when trying to select something off the menu. What do you think of it staying at whatever screen it was at instead of going back to the main menu when you shut the phone?

i do not think that the standby of whatever screen you are currently in is as annoying as say a 5 second delate between the picture capture button press and the actual capture. that ok button is a bit annoying because it is so sleek and easy to miss, it is just as bad as the rest of the keys...

I have to say I wasnt sure from the get go that this phone was worth all the hype. 😢

Like previously stated the ok key is too small.

The keypad reminds me of the 710 👿 I prefer my buttons not to touch and to be raised, improves my chances of not fat fingering a number or messege. Personal preference.

Anyone noticed the button on the top flip that appears to have a pic of a phone and a camera? Press it! I dare ya! VOICE RECORDER??? WHAT THE!? 🙄

I am glad that they didnt change their navigation or wording for menus, but the interface works much better with out soo many buttons. I like that you can access the same features different ways (ie ring options) but accessing the same menu two different ways seems r...

I really like the phone....a LOT. In fact, I bought the phone the day after we got them in. I like the solid feel of it. Heavier than most of the phones and similar in feel (sturdy) to the LG-4400.

The keypad tokk a bit of getting used to as my fingers slid of the keys a bit. I love the large, bright display. The picture (megpixel wise) is the same as all the other camera phones with the exception of the Moto v710, however, the 6255 display is twice as bright/clear as all the other camera phones.

I had no problems taking pictures in normal mode. Works quickly and I haven't had an issue with shutter lag. I like that, if you associate a photo with a contact it will display it on the outer LCD and also show you a persons picture a...

It is a heavy phone, yes, but all that weight is in the top, the bottom half is just as heavy as the bottom half of the dummy phone in the launch kit. Open that sucker up and wiggle it a bit, it will close on its own at the slightest movement. I don't think it was us cellular that makes it not be able to set mp3's as ringtones, you just have to be smart enough to figure out how to do it, the v710 is the same way but that phone is so popular everyone knows how to change that now.

I did not know that you could use the infared to beam pictures to each other, that is pretty cool, but very superfluous. I don't see the memory card slot though, where is it?

What is "superfluous" to one is needed by another! 😁

You have to remove the battery. There is a tiny little hinge on the left that you tug on to swing out the storage area.

I would appreciate any tips that anyone can post that tell me how to set MP3's, or other supported (MIDI/AMR) formats as ringtones.

I have a 256MB card right now but I can probably get away with a basic 128MB card. I use the extra memory card to showcase the storage capacity and how many songs/photos/videos you can store on it.

You can't. You can only assign an MP3 as the "Message Alert" for an incoming text message. The ability to use MP3's as ring tones was locked out of the handset. Bummer, but, a small sacrifice IMO as we could only assign ring tones to the five contact "Groups".

Personally, I am having fun with changing out my wallpaper frequently. I bought a Bluetooth adapter and transfer new pictures to the handset using Nokia's free PC Suite software.

anything is possible with a phone, especially if it is something the carrier wanted removed, people thought the same thing about the v710, but the 710 was easy to find out because so many other people had it, the problem with the 6255 is that it is not as popular, so there is not the community around to hold that one prized person who will actually crack it.

Unless USC locked this out as well, try converting them to AAC. The phone specs say you can use AAC for ringtones so maybe that would work. If you have iTunes installed, you can use itunes to convert to AAC fairly easily. If you're not sure how to do it, post and let me know and i'll post how to do it.

I've tried everything I can think of to accomplish this and nothing works. The Nokia software blocks this.

The only SURE way to do this is to use special software called "Diego", which techs use to update the software, etc. Plus, you need to use the DKU-2 data cable. You can't use this software via Bluetooth or IR.

There are "cracked" versions of this software available on the web. I'd be VERY careful with it. If you hose a setting and bring it back for repair you might get caught.

Before anyone asks, I don't know of a web site that has the Diego software.
