Anything I should know about the v710?

Greetings, Ive been on US Cell for about 6 years now and been pretty happy with it I guess. My motorola flip phone fell last week and broke in 2 pieces 2 weeks short of my contract expiring. So now i have to make a decision, either stick with US cell or switch to Verizon or Cingular once my contract is up. In the meantime Im test driving a v710. Its OK I guess... I like the included bluetooth headset..The camera seem kinda useless. The battery life so far stinks. Just checking if there is anything particularly wrong with the phone that you don't like. It was either this or the Nokia. I don't trust LG. BTW..I get employee discounts with Verizon and Cingular and US Cell still seems to be cheaper.

I personally am not a fan of Motorola, I hate the way they navigate and the last few generations of phones have each had their own problems (ie charge port on the v810, defective earpieces and mics on the v262, and bad screens on the v265) However, the v266 and the v710 have restored my faith in motorola. I would recommend getting an ext battery if you are a heavy user, other than that it's a great phone. I personally use LG, and will probably continue to, but I have been thinking about the v710 lately, since the RAZR did not impress me at all when i demo'd it.

thank you! I'm not the only one who doesn't act like motorolas are not defective right off the assembly line. But I have had customers with problems with the 710 as well, more than half the ones purchased have had to be sent out for repair. I do not have much input on the 266 so the jury is still out on it.

Thank you. some people here say that all Motorola is junk. It's good to see that you have an open mind. 😉

you just have to understand that every manufacturer is going to make a phone that for some reason they just cant get right. motorola had several out at one time. but like any company they'll make changes and get it together! and they did!

i love LG but the dang 5550 just had one problem after another...mainly the screen and the earpice...but even phones being sent in for repair and replaced with refurbished units were then coming back with the same problem...but thats its own thread. lol

I must admit I got burned by Motorola a few years ago and have hated their products since. The one exception to the rule being the V710.

I was able to buy one used for $100 and ever since I got it I have been nothing but happy with the V710 ever since. The reception has been amazing, the bluetooth very handy while driving, and the display are a few of the things that I really like about this phone. I do wish bluetooth was fully implemented, but in the end it's still a phone and I can live without sending contacts / files to my PDA via bluetooth.

The V710 is a great phone. It has mp3 witch I think every phone should have nowadays. Bluetooth and free headset!! The charge port on this Motorola and a few others have gone bad due to abuse. All it takes is to pull out the charger from the phone with out pressing down on the relase button. I have seeen a bunch of v710's were the RF 1900 band does not work in it for some reason. Over all this is a really good phone and it has a large display. Very happy that Motorola will have a new charging port for there new phones. V323? CDMA Razr?

Even though it has been out for about 6 months. It has MP3,1.2 Megapixel,Bluetooth,Large display. Thats about as cutting edge as you can get out of a phone unless you want something 3G. If you want a phone that has a better camera you might want to get the Kyocera Koi or just buy a digital camera.

I must be the only person who hates this phone! Ya, the bluetooth, wireless headseat & big display are nice, but overall I think this phone is just...well, to be honest...crap. I'm on my second one now. The first one would just shut itself off when I was in the middle of typing a tm, and when it turned back on, it would re-send a bunch of other texts that I had sent a week prior! 😡 That lead to several confused people.
The friggin' reminders in the calendar didn't go off when they were supposed to 1/2 the time, either.
But the biggest thing that makes me really mad is that the camera is absolutely worthless unless you're in completely bright sunlight at high noon. I spent the extra cash on this phone because I was told it was th...

Get the firmware upgrade for the v710. It should solve those problems. Ask for S/W Version: 8700_01.40.2P

What is that, exactly? Will it improve the camera? Do I get it at USC? How much is it?

It just erks me that I spent $200 (I know, I know...) for this phone and these things are happening. For that kind of money it should work perfectly w/o having to buy upgrades, ya know?

Thx,
Beth

I would check to see if you have the latest software on the phone. If not, USCC will direct you to a store that has the capability to perform the upgrade.

Settings>Phone Status>Other Information>S/W Version

The update addresses several issues. Not sure if the camera is part of it but the camera is not very good anyway, update or not.

I just looked & I have the S/W 8700_01.40.2P

So, I guess I'm outta luck.

You seem knowledgable...How is it that my friend's 0.3 mp camera takes MUCH better pics than this 1.2? I don't get it. And, I'm clueless! 🙄

I'm sure you are very careful with your phone though, i would not suggest that huge outside screen to a lot of customers, especially when they cost $400 non contract. and for the same reason i did not buy a mp3 player until it was available in cd form i would not like a movie capture phone limited by on board memory.

The Firmware upgrade does nothing for the camera it is primarily aimed at fixing text messaging issues. The 710, 262, 265 and 810 all have newer software versions than they had at launch. Check with your closest USCC retail store to see if they have the upgrades available. They are free or at least should be. If someone is charging I would speak with a manager. 😁

Well Ive had the phone for a few weeks and I must say for $400 Im not overly impressed. Call quality is good and the bluetooth is nice. I like the voice dialing feature. But battery life so far is horrible. After a full charge I had a 30 min phone call and got the battery low warning. Thats just inexcuseable. Normally by now I would have bought 3 spare extended life batteries and keep on on the charger and the other on the phone, but the battery cover actually is difficult to remove. Whats up with that? the camera is pointless as reported, especially since Ill NEVER send anyone pics. And the camera light? Cmon. I may take a closer look at the low tech Nokia, Either way I cant envision a scenario where I would marry myself to this ...
