How is USCC reception in non-USCC areas?

I'm currently with Verizon, and thinking of switching to US Cellular, as it's rated equal to or better than Verizon in Chicago area market. And it's at least $20 per month cheaper.
The only issue I worry about is traveling out of state. I don't do it all that often--less than 20 days per year--so I'm not worried about roaming charges or having more than 50% of calls out of USC markets. I just want to be confident that when I'm driving around Las Vegas, LA, New York, or PA, I'll be able to get service.
Also, assuming I want a phone with just good call quality, reception, and earpiece volumn, and everything else is secondary, what would you recommend? I was thinking the LG 6100, which is what I have with Verizon. I know USC has a limit...

service outside of uscc areas will be fine. there main roaming partners are verizon and sprint. personal experience with both uscc and verizon driving across PA on interstate 80 is not the best once you get into the "mountains" as they are called out there.

i don't know about the razr, but the moto 815 is evdo so I would highly doubt that.

US Cellular service outside of us cellular markets is Verizon. Probably the same in Chicago.

US cell no longer uses Verizon as a roaming partner, the big one is Sprint and the Moto Razr is getting developed for CDMA, but would maybe and I say maybe at the earliest be out around Christmas time, but probably later

U.S. Cellular does in fact roam with Verizon.
Its cool that the razor is going to be cdma as well. Whats so cool about the razor the CDMA Motorola V710 has Video/MP3/Bluetooth and it wont break in half cause its not razor thin.

Glad to see an enthusiast US CELL Rep on here.

I just switched over to US Cell after being with Verizon for 8 years. The reps in the corp. owned store were the best I've ever seen in a cell phone store. They really helped, and offered to transfer my contacts from my Moto Verizon phono to my new LG phone at USCC.
See my other post today "I just switched to US Cellular...". From my experience with US Cell, its service and reps, I believe you when you say it's the best. And so much less expensive than Verizon. Free inbound text messages, free incoming calls, nights and weekends starting at 7pm. And call quality and coverage as good in my area as Verizon's, if not better.
By the way, I am not a rep at any cell phone company. I'm a fi...

I live in New Hampshire, but travel often to Massachusetts. US Cellular phones roam on Verizon (or Sprint, if Verizon signal isn't available) and it's fine.

As to a phone, I recommend the Kyocera KX-1 (also known as the Soho). I've had mine for almost a year, and it's performed flawlessly. Speakerphone, 200 contact phone book, great sound quality incoming and those I call do not realize I am on a cellphone.

It tends to get short shrift on these boards, where there are a lot of LG and Moto fans, but it's a workhorse phone and I highly recommend it.

Thanks for all the replies so far. From what I've seen on this board, US Cellular customers seem to be very happy with their service, and very polite and friendly on this forum. When I read on the Cingular and Verizon forums, there's so much verbal fighting going on ("CDMA's best." "No you jerk, GSM is best." "My daddy can beat up your daddy".)

It's pretty refreshing not to see all of that. I know theres some dissatisfaction with the wait for new phones--but even Verizon and Cingular have that complaint. With the big selection Verizon have, there's really only a few really good ones. All you need are some good phones to go along with the great call and customer service.

I have traveled a lot with my USCC phone..Northern Wisconsin, Southern Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and have had no problems at all. In fact we were traveling with 2 couples in Northern Illinois, one has Nextel and the other has Verizon. We were the only ones that could use our phones at all. Don't knock the small guy...they are a very strong company with outstanding customer service! I would recommend them hands down!

If you are going to be in northwest Iowa or southern Minnesota you will more than likely not have any service at all, but if you don't travel in those areas that shouldn't be an issue for you.
