New Customer, which phone?

spinster

Good Morning,

I am porting in from Verizon Wireless and am looking for a good basic phone. Reception, reliability, voice quality, and battery life are the requirements. I was looking at the Moto W385. Seems like a good phone, great sound quality. is this a good choice, or is there something better?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The Moto 385 is an awesome phone. I would deffinately recommend a Motorola over anything, they tend to get better reception over a samsung, or lg anyday!

I agree. I have a 385, and although it isn't the most feature rich model, it is a solid performer.

The 2 phones that I most often recommend to customers is the w385 and the LG ux565 (other than smartphones). There are a couple of other phones that are good as well I just have the best customer feedback on these phones.

I also would agree, although I would certainly say that Samsung phones have improved vastly over the years and I think they are just as good as Motorola.

On US Cellular's network, especially in rural areas, Motorolas are the top performers when it comes to reception. The Motorola W385 is one of the most reliable phones we sell right now. It's cost effecient, while still having some of the extra features added on, such as a camera and bluetooth compatability. Plus, you always have your 30 day guarantee to use if you decide to chose a different model later.

Don't Do it!!! Stay with Verizon you will regret going to USC!!! Your phone will constantly roam! One thing people don't realize about roaming, is that if you do get the nationwide plan you will be using other carriers towers, if for some reason the tower gets full, (too many people trying to place calls) you will be the first one bumped off and will lose your call! Don't fall for the nationwide gimmick! I would just stay with Verizon, save yourself the hastle of having to go back when they buy out US Cellular!

Actually, USCC does roam constantly, no matter if you have a national plan or not. I currently have AT&T which is 10x better then USCC, but I used to have USCC and paid 150 dollars just to get away from them!

TRUE STORY!
Yesterday, I was out with my brother, and he has a National USCC plan, well we were in town and he was roaming(surprise surprise), my AT&T phone was dead due to me forgetting to put it on charge, I really had to use his phone so I tried using it, and it came up saying "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, this call could not be completed" it continued to say this until he stopped roaming. Some great cellphone service huh? Can't even use their own towers. thats lame.

Wow. So much wrong information. First of all, you will only use other carriers towers if you are not in a native USCC coverage area. That's the way roaming works with ALL carriers. Not every carrier has blanket US coverage.
And no, you will not be the first one bumped off a roamer tower if it gets too full.

Depending on what are you are in it may not even matter. Not to mention if you have a national plan you don't need to worry about roaming charges. 🙂

ok let me explain this a little better, because i am right, and this only applies to roaming, (using another carriers towers).... If you are in lets say New York City, we do not offer native US Cellular towers there, so lets say your placing a call to your 65 year old kid (because your obviously old since you have US Cellular and on a nursing home tour of NYC)... ok so your placing this call to tell him about the pigeons and you hit the send button.... The call is routed to a Verizon tower and thus goes throughout the process to get to your retired offspring.... Now lets say hypothetically the tower is only capable of having 100 people placing calls at the same time, well since you are the roamer, verizon is going to give its own customer pr...

Who is feeding you this drivel? You obviously know nothing about CDMA and the concept of soft handoff. And the completion of the VZW acquisition of Alltel is far from complete. It still has to go through the FCC and the DOJ. That could be a ways off.

i agree with you verizon is a long way from taking over alltel. verizon has a 1900 MHz system here in Greenville , north Carolina and they do Rome on alltel their 1900 MHz is not good at all and in the rural areas its even worst. ☚ī¸

Yes, indeed, and the reason is that Verizon has this nasty habit of putting their same crappy propietary user interface on every single phone they sell. They have ruined the Moto W385 - there is NO WAY to change the ring style on that phone without opening the flip, because the side volume buttons do not function when the flip is closed. What gives them the right to mess with Motorola's design? The KRZR K1M and the RAZR are ruined the same way. The W385 from USCC runs exactly the way Motorola designed it.

VZW blows chunks. Even with the gain of Alltel.. which is not in my market.. VZW will not be able to compete with rural coverage like USCC. Not to mention how much cheaper plans are.. not to mention how USCC national plans are the same as VZW.. not to mention - shut up and go away. 😁

Another message from a mind warped Verizon customer. What crazy world do you live in where Verizon has a tower in every city in the USA? Note to crazy Verizon customers: Verizon users roam too.

Kentucky Jelly has her opinion, which is fine, but my roommate works for Verizon and is roaming on US Cellular's network ALL THE TIME, so his VCast and crap never works......LOL Love it... it's the network haha
