Newbie - Metro PCS Roaming

Thill

I am thinking about switching from Cingualr to Metro PCS, I am constantly on the phone. So I thought it might be more coast effective to switch to Metro. I saw that they offer a "roaming" option. Does anyone know how much this is. OR is there any way around it. I am under the impression that Metro phones can not be "unlocked". Thanks - T

In a sense, all phones can "roam"

of course with metro the coverage area is only limited to the bay area, florida, and atlanta.

but if you were to roam with the phone, and wanted to use it, you would have to use a credit card everytime you used the phone and the rates would be very very high as you would no longer be using Metros services anymore but would be on AT&T network or whoevers.

Metros are CDMA. no sim cards for them to be unlocked.

i too had cingular but i made the switch to metro. as a simple-thinker, i am more than pleased with what metro has to offer. cingular was great, and to me, is the best major service provider. if i leave metro i'll go back to cingular.

the roam can only be used if you add money to a metro connect account. which is great, since you wont incur any extra charges on your monthly bill. i haven't actually used the phone under roam, but most of the time, as you are in a metropolitan area, it will regain normal signal. under normal conditions, i called hawaii @ the rate of .03 cents per minute. very similar to a calling card. but in connection to gucciant's reply, i think the rates for roaming are high. (u get what you pay for)
