Editorial: How Sprint Can Bounce the iPhone
Written by Christopher Price

The iPhone has a lot of buzz right now. Sprint however is in a unique position to leverage the Sanyo M1 and other new devices against the iPhone, and repel Verizon's Chocolate as a paper tiger. Read more to see how they can, and hopefully, will.
The Clock Is Ticking
The iPhone is coming, and everyone is in agreement it will be announced on January 9th. We'll be there covering it live, but right now, the iPhone is what is abuzz. Even Verizon's massive Chocolate campaign is having trouble keeping up with what everyone is talking about outside of TV ads... Apple's phone.
It's so ubiquitous, that whatever it is,...

I take that back and apologize! And replace it with I cant read a book in a forum!
...
Its the Christmas season no biggie its actually an interesting article if you take the time to read it.
...
I will just can't right now!
...
I read it and I agree with some aspects. Sprint is still not good with advertising. The new commercials are ok but after talking about how fast the power vision is what phone do they put up there to advertise. The Katana. Great phone just one problem. ITS NOT A POWER VISION PHONE. Sometimes I think they are hiring people off the street for their marketing that no nothing of marketing. They need to get it right and soon!
...
Hate to admit it, but we're digging up our own grave. We do need to advertise our new products a lot more than just our network.
...
LOL the M1 up against the iphone yeah right! ..even if they advertised the hell out of it there is no comparison. I have used the M1 its total junk!
...
oh please and why is it total junk. I reinstate my idiot statement to you for posting a statement without any reason. Please enlighten us all?
...
I have the M1. Its reception can not be beat. Its speakers are better then some laptops. It has One gig of external memory which is faster then a Mini SD card. Its small but not too small. Light and sturdy. Has almost every BT connection out there. Video caller ID which is neat. So please share me your reason it sucks!
...
one gig of external memory? ๐ ๐ณ ๐คค

You use to many exclamation marks!!!
What a lovely view you have here!
That's fantastic!
wombough, don't touch that!
Help!
Good heavens!
Aaarrgh!
...
you made your point that you don't know you just speak for the hell of it!

I think Verizon is a wonderful company, I think Sprint is great too. We're competition or otherwise you would not be in our forum, Competition is great, and right now VZW is on top of its game. But we're the stone that keeps the blade sharp. We are your CDMA competition. We have a differently marketed product. Your postings will not remove that fact.
We are about 30 million CDMA Customers, Verizon is almost 60 million. Its good your proud of your company, but realize that bragging about your company, or insulting others is pointless.
Yay for Verizon. Okay lets talk about Sprint.

I wouldn't call it Sprint dropping the ball, Apple will be promotiong there phone, if anything you could say Sanyo would be dropping the ball. But even then I wouldn't sway that.
Sanyo doesn't technically have a first claim into this market, Apple has been making intenal 1gig music player for quite a while, and have a popular following, and there branding is what makes them sale. Like Band-Aids vs. Adhesive strips. Brand name is everything, People are more familiar withithe term iPod than MP3 player, thus why they are the #1. They were not the first one with an MP3 Player, just like Intel wasn't the first to make a processors, they were the first one's to name them, thus now we have the Pentium.
The conclusion drawn in the article, wa...

A lot of business publications are predicting that the iPhone will be launched on a MVNO run by Apple. What do y'all think? Will Apple roll the MVNO dice? It fits their business model to a degree because they will not have to work with traditional carrier's subsidized handset pricing. Personally, I think this might be the way they go.

I honestly disagree.
I really don't expect the iPhone to do that well. Not to mention it will probably be $400.
There are enough phones out now that support iTunes that having a iPod phone isn't going to attract that many customers.
I wouldn't be surprised by an MVNO launch by Apple...at all. That will be what kills them. Carriers are battling for subscribers as it is now. It's such a saturated market. Subscribers will not go to Apple JUST because of an phone/mp3 player. Even in a situation where they don't launch MVNO...I don't think there would be enough attraction. Almost every single phone that comes out now has a built in mp3 player. It's almost weird to see one that doesn't. If this phone was the first of it's kind......

the general public is name brand crazy in America, all the analysts are expectiong big things, and Steve Jobs himself is promising his investors 10 million sold in the first quarter. So your opinion is not gonna matter. This phone is going to do well.
The buzz itself should tell you that.
People questioned the iPod Shuffle and the iPod Nano. Apple is going to do good. Saying otherwise is like saying its not gonna rain when humidity is 100% and dark clouds are coming over the horizon.
...
So what do you think SL_VA? MVNO or carrier?
...
Carrier guaranteed without any doubt. Steve Jobs is promising 10 million units sold at 1 quarter launch. Thats impossible on MVNO.
...
oh and I forgot to mention its already listed to be launched with Verizon.
...
Huh, i bet the battery quality on the phone will be improved, because i have heard rumors that the iPod Nano's battery has an average life of 18 months!
...
plus, i guess it's only a matter of time before M$ starts making cellphones as well ๐

If Apple is true to their cheap, strigent ways of slowly introducing the technology even when they already have it ready (the 4gig Nano being an example as apple could of easily made it a 8 gig but wanted force Nano users to buy the new one), then we can all expect the first iPhone to be a tremendous dissapointment. I would be willing to bet it simply won't have the same features as the M1 or other comparable phones and its main selling point will simply be its a iPhone and runs on the ipod platform. If thats the case then I believe if Sprint could simply present a easy and logical way to create playlists like the Ipods do, it could compete initially. However if Apple doesn't pull any punches and launches the type of phone that they are capa...

My sentiments exactly. Overpriced garbage.
Welcome to 2 years ago when Mp3 Phones were groundbreaking. ๐
