Does Sprint have pay as you go Web service?

from what I have seen Sprint charges $15 for unlimited web access. Since I do not send Pics and only use the web on occasion on a cell phone I like the .01 per KB set up. or like the 2.99/500kb Cingular has.

Im on month to month ATT and am looking to swtich Carriers. My choices are in order so far

Cingular, Sprint, T Mobile, Verizon. Im a Motorola and Nokia fan as far as phones go But I could live with a Samsung V680. Im leaning toward Cingular because of the ATT deal and the roll over miniutes which many call a gimmick but my use is so topsy turvy its a nice add on. I like the Sprint Flex for the same reason. Roll over in reverse! I have been with ATT for 8 years and had no real big issues with their coverage or Cust Service...Im as...

If you don't subscribe to vision you can use it for a penny per kb. It is buried in the rate sheets so deeply that salespeople sometimes miss it.

GSM vs CDMA is an ongoing argument. US companies using GSM only do so to move to the European form of CDMA. GSM is much cheaper in all respects but network capacity is extremely limited. CDMA can support up to 10 times more customers at the same time but it is being implemented and upgraded so there is no cost savings to pass on yet.

When all of the network investment slows down then CDMA will be able to bury GSM in sheer amounts of bandwidth available.

There is an irony here. When CDMA carriers network improvements are complete GSM carriers will be just beginning theirs. Then the former G...

Samsungs are so-so but Sanyo phones out perform the rest.

Sanyo phones are awesome. When I worked for Radio Crack, they were always the first thing I offered because they're durable & hold signal like a mofo. The older models weren't the fanciest, but they always worked the way they were supposed to. I'll give Sprint this compliment - signing Sanyo to an exclusive-supplier contract was a smart move. At least you know Sanyo won't have a repeat of the LG 1010 fiasco 😁

Jeff... I beg to differ. Sprint has no roaming agreement with T-Mobile for one reason - T-Mobile is GSM. That's the same reason Sprint has no roaming arrangement with ATTWS or Cingular, unless you are referencing AMPS coverage.

SPCS roams w/ everyone that has an analog network, T-mo has no AMPS, so no roaming

I know about the T-Mobile issue but it is inconsequential because incumbent cellular carriers are there wherever T-Mobile is. It was really not worth mentioning.

Anywhere Cingular or ATTWS offers TDMA/AMPS Sprint can roam on the AMPS if there is no CDMA available.

I like the roaming areas and all for $5.00 extra. I wonder if that includes LD.

It seems Sprint has the best overall call (digital/analog) coverage of all indeed.

Can one use the phone to access the internet via a Laptop like Verizon? I don't use the phones for web access, too slow for the expense, small screen, etc. For $5 like Verizon though I'd buy it. Not $15! Yikes....

The ONLY real issue I have with Sprint is believe it or not the customer service. Nothing is worse than trying to get a problem resolved. Although I have no personal experience, I have heard and read horror stories about Sprint in that area.

The Sprint people are as concerned about that as anyone. They have made enormous strides in the past year and improve every month.
Average hold times are way down and reps are more knowledgable and willing to help.
They are definitely not as good as Verizon yet but will soon be very close.

As far as hooking up a laptop Sprint prefers that you don't but if you want to they offer air cards for your computer.

Keep one important difference in mind: Verizon's internet at $5 per month charges airtime, Sprint's is unlimited at $15.00 so it really doesn't matter when you use it.

As for phone based internet being slow it is on GSM/GPRS because of the limitations of the system. CDMA 2000 operates from 50kbps to 144kbps. The small screen is...

i'll believe sprint is really making strides and is worried about their customer service problems when they re-open the call center they closed last week. i believe it was in indiana, but don't quote me on that. i do know that they closed a call center though. and i'll really believe it when they close the call centers in india to have some more open up in the US. there's nothing worse than trying to solve a problem when the CCR doesn't even speak fluent english.

actually sprint has taken great strides to improve cust care. they have signed a contract with ibm to handel there customer service. the reason being that ibm if they do not perform they will not get payed... and about your india remark. the call centers in india are strictly for sprints internal use. they are not for customers to call. they are sprints back side like wlnp and truble tickets and network issues.

not true, customers do call it all the time. they use it for activations. the number that is printed on the side of every box is an activations number and gets immediately routed to india. so customers that don't activate in a store go home and get to deal with people in india.

meaning LD is INcluded with roaming?

Yeah I would much rather use airtime to dial up with a laptop hook up to EL,AOL or another DSP.

I know people who have those laptop cards you speak of and tey are not very satisfied. With the ability to use the phone as a dial up you can access the internet ANYWHERE anytime using the many local access number available.

This is quickly becoming a must have as I look more into the available web connections and costs from carriers. I don't want to pay $15 and have only the small screen to use and only in some select places.

Ha.. customer service does suck. It took me TWO HOURS or more just to cancel Sprint... and it was like one and a half hour of waiting and half an hour of the customer care person trying to get me to stay.
