Is this normal?

So, I went into a RadioShack on 10-13-05 to sign up for a 2 year Sprint Contract. For those that are curious, I got the Sanyo MM-8300. My plan is the 400 min F&F for $35/month, PCS2PCS for $5/month, Nights starting @ 7 for $5/month. He also said I had one month free of the Ultimate Vision, and after a month, it'd be $15/month. Also free for a month was unlimited text messages, and would go up to $15/month.

Some other things he said:

In the future, when Sprint bought Nextel Partners, I'd be able to use their towers.

Sometimes the phones ordered online from sprint.com were used or refurbished phones, not necessarily new. This was his answer when I asked why this phone was $100 at the store and $50 online.

When I came home t...

he is lying or he doesnt know wich is also his fault if he is going to sell u something he needs to know the correct pricing because it cant be changed so u could take it back and cancel i think u can keep ur number if u call customer service and ask for back as long as u activate it within 24 hrs of canceling not shure on that though and as far as the different rebates online they are special offers for ordering online and are all new phones so again id have to say he was lying to u to make the sale. 😳

So should I maybe call the Sprint Store near me to get this taken care of, to keep my number? I'm not really fond of calling customer service, they've been rather rude every time I call in. I guess if I have to, I will.

your first mistake was going to radio shack. would you buy a new ford at a chevy dealership? the ultimate pack is 20 a month. if you are within 14 days you can return the phone to radio shack. no, you cant keep your number as far as i know because you are now an existing customer. just an additional question for you, did you buy insurance? if so did you get the radio shack insurance or sprint insurance. radio shack likes to push theirs and it sucks. if your phone breaks the send it in and you are without a phone for about 2 weeks.

I did buy the radioshack insurance. I didn't even think to ask how it is handled. How is the Sprint insurance handled? I know with Cingular's XBM, we just call and tell them what's going on, and they'll send a new phone overnight or 2 day. Once I get that phone, I put my SIM in it, and send my old one back.

And I'm on hold with the Sprint store near me, and he said I can't keep my number. It's ok, I guess, I think I only gave it to about 3 people. The guy there said the princing's about the same, but at least the RS guy won't get to keep his commission.

Now that I'm cancelling, I may call up this number they gave me at work. I get the activation fee waived and a free accessory pack. Hope it's not some cheap car charger and ...

just make sure you buy your phone at a sprint store. it will go a lot better for you if you have warranty issue as far as getting it replaced. sprint insurance works by calling an 800 number they take a $50 deductable and you get a new phone. you only have to use this if you break or lose your phone. if it is a manufac. defect you take it back to the store and they will replace it as long as it is in decent shape.(buy a case)

Yeah, see, that's one of the reasons I did the RS one, it was a lot cheaper. Usually, I don't get the insurance, since 99% of the time, it's more expensive than self insuring. Cell phones are another thing though. There's more of a chance this falls into the toilet than my tv falling into one.

I do plan on buying a case also. One thing I hate is the lack of support. I cannot find any decent accessories to my phone, except for the face plates. Where's the leather cases? Where's the holsters? Where's the data software?

the case they sell for that phone at any sprint store is made by sanyo, and they are pretty cool. if you dont like that try the body glove line. data software? are you talking about a data cable? sprint stores dont sell those. try online.

Yeah, the bodyglove one looked alright. I'll look at the Sprint Store when I go by. As for the data software. Sanyo makes it, but not for my phone, at least not on their site. I did contact them, and they said a company called FutureDial is making one. It looks like what I've been looking for, but I'm going to hold off on buying it, at least until my 14 day trial is up. It's a bit expensive and I don't want to be stuck with it if I decide to change phones or cancel all together.

well im glad u got that straightend out but as far as the data cabel goes i would wait a little bit because there are a lot of companies making them its just that phone is so new u wont see them for a while u should be able to get one next month for around $30 for the whole package with cabel and software the one i use is handset manger from mobile action technologies it works great on my 7400 u can check the software updates at www.mobileaction.com hope this helps

Wow, $30 is cheap. The cable itself was going to cost that much. I'll bookmark that page. It sure would've been nice if this stuff was released WITH the phone. Many of these phones, from what I've seen, are used mainly by adults and business types, people that would benefit from these kinds of products. Guess some support would be asking too much, huh? The FutureDial one does look good though, and is exactly what I was looking for.

I'd like to be able to transfer music to use as ringtones, trasfer pics back and forth, and sync contacts and calendar entries. The one at MobileAction won't sync contacts and calendar entries. I had been using Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools. It would convert the files to ones that would fit in the phone and be used by the phone. It also let you trim up music files to only send a 20 second clip. I guess I got a bit spoiled, but my old phone is about 2 years old, I would expect it of almost any phone sold now. Especially one like the MM-8300.

Yeah, I downloaded a trail or something of it. I'm playing with the midi composer. I really don't like music ringtones, more of a "ring" kind of guy, but, it's neat to have every now and then. I'm going to see if I can snag a FutureDial one on ebay, cheap, and then puchase the cord. Someone may be selling theirs for a different model, but I believe I can download a patch. I'll make sure before I do that though.

Get Bitpim (www.bitpim.org). Completely open source and free and I believe it supports the 8300. If so, it will sync your contacts as well allow you to upload pictures, ringers, and screensavers. Plus it's PC and Mac compatible. The cable you can probably find on ebay for less than $10. If you find another Sanyo cable listed for the 5500, 5600, 7300, 7400, 8100 or 8200 it will work.

Just an update. I called Sprint to ask them if I cancel the service, can I renew and keep the same #. For the record, they said no, but asked why I was wanting to do that. I told them what happened at RadioShack and I want to return it, so he'd lose his commission on the sale, but I still want to stay with Sprint. The guy took down the store info and the name of the guy and said he'd look into it. The following day, I walked in returned the phone, cancelled the service, and walked out with all my money back. I then went over to a Sprint store and signed up again. New number, but, whatever. Everything was great, except the car charger I got has the OLD Sprint logo on it. Sucky, but, it works.

Well, Sprint knows what they did as does the assistant manager. I don't think the a.m. is going to do much, he was there at the time, but the Sprint rep. sounded pretty upset. Of course, he is just a rep, not Mr. Sprint, but even so.

Hey, if you don't want to get hosed on some things on your account that a Sales Associate added that you didn't ask for, DONT GO TO A STORE THAT HAS A BASE PAY OF COMMISSION!!!!!!!!!...sucker, when will you, and the rest of you people learn, RADIOSHACK SUCKS!!!!!!!! Lame, stock prices aren't going to drop $.60/share just because of a post like this. By the way, the market was down in general the past few days.

True, I doubt that these posts have any barrings in the market, it would be cool if they did, but it just goes to show that RSH is a Sukey company (I should know...). My post still stands. If you want a fair, and totally impartial, don't go to a place that has a pay rate based mainly on commission.

That's true, I agree with you there, but, if you think about it, pretty much everyone's paid on commission. Don't show up for work for a week, see if you still get paid. I mainly went to RS because that's the only place near me that sells Sprint. I did end up going to a Sprint Store and they helped me out. Now, if there was a way I could totally get away from Cingular, I'd be a happy camper.

There is a difference between what your talking about, and commission. If you don't show up for work, your not providing a service that they are paying you for, so they don't pay you. Commission is being payed extra for selling something, the more expensive of the thing, the more money goes in your pocket.

Also, try getting a fair shake of Cingular at a sprint store, and you would think that they were talking about fire and brimstone. I think that cingular is much better, because I personally saw Sprint call the POLICE on someone, and said "if you have any more questions about your phone, you can talk to the officer". THE MANAGER said that!! To my knowledge I think the only one who isn't based on commission is Best Buy. I have heard that ...

Well, commission, you get paid for what you do. Same with any job, don't do it, and you'll be gone, unless you're (g)union.

I'll be honest, I've had Cingular for nearly 6 years and it has been great. The only problem I'm having now is the reception in my area, and it's not just my phone, it's everyone's phone in three surrounding cities. I'm assuming it's still like that, I haven't had a phone for almost a week. Cingular's not letting me out without paying $50 ETFs, even though it's their towers that they don't know how to fix. I'm already headed to Sprint, so there's not really much they can do. I doubt though I can still get out for $50, and I really doubt had I cancelled that day, the guy would've let me out for that much. I pro...
