Long Term plan for Indirect Channel?

What do you guys think the long term goal is for the indirect channel? By the actions that Sprint is and continues to take, it is obvious that Sprint wants customers to go to Best Buy, Radioshack Wal-Mart, rather than going to an Indirect Sprint retailer to purchase the phones.

Why do you think this is? As more and more people realize you can get the phone at Best Buy for much cheaper, then where does that leave the indirect channel in 5 years? 10 years?

I really do think that Sprint would prefer customers to buy a phone at Best Buy and then have that customer go to an indirect store to get their email set up, contacts transferred, Ready Now experience exc.

It saves them money based on volume and the contracts they have. Also the mail in rebate gets waived at no cost to sprint

They treat all of the Best Buy stores as one entity. So volume incentive bonus is not really the same as it is with the indirect channel.

If all of the indirects were treated as one entity when it came to volume incentive, then we would be able to offer the phones at the same price as Best Buy, and be able to compete on a fair playing field.

I suppose I am just disgruntled, because as a Store manager for a indirect store, I am getting tired of dealing with phones that people buy at Best Buy and then bring to my store when they want help with it. I'm also tired of people coming into my store, getting all of their questions answered, shown the phones, and then when I ask for the sale they say "Well Best Buy has this phone for $100 chea...

You make a good case. If you could get all of the independent Sprint dealers to create a "group" to compete with Best Buy and RadioShack then you could get the same consideration with the instant vs. mail in rebates.
I hate having to support the customers who come from WalMart because they did not complete the activation, could not program the phone or flat out misinformed the customer.
I also hate having to explain to customers that bought from an indirect and spent the extra $100.00 that it is not in their best interest to return the phone and rebuy it from me.

there a 3rd party retailer just like the other stores it has nothing to do with them "pushing them away" from there stores just opening it up more for availability. people go to walmart, best buy etc. more than they would a sprint store so why not sell there? i think its a rather smart choice to do so and there techs at those store's i do believe are trained to troubleshoot or at least can assist with it.

and....... sprint isn't the only one to do this every carrier can be found there. sorry your confused.

Walmart and Best buy don't have techs

even if they did, they are trained on 5+ carriers, and it's hard enough keeping all the info for one carrier straight.

Go corporate, that's what I did. Or go work for a larger Indirect Dealer. I left United Cellular, they've got big plans and are the largest 3rd party dealer.
