Howdy fellow Sprint users. I was wondering if anyone can elaborate on the difference between Verizon's EV-DO and the one that Sprint will begin to roll out.

they are rolling out the same version, REV O, however in 2006-2007 they will be rolling out REV A , which is a lot faster then REV O.

So when do you think it will be up and running and also, will Verizon also be going with Rev O.

verizon is using REV O, now. it is very vague, but i think if i heard correctly, they said by mid 2005 they will be deploying REV O in some markets, and finish at the end of 2005 maybe early 2006. then they will overlap REV O with REV A in the 2006-2008 time frame. its confusing.

I heard that, Rev this Rev that. I have 1 more ? that you might can answer for me. When Sprint and Nextel officially merges, will Nextel move off of the 800 band completely or will Sprint offer service on the 800 and 1900 band.

with DO you want the latest revision, becuase they can support more speeds and have lower latency. REV O, like verizon does doesnt have a great speed, and it has more latency. REV A, has faster speeds and has lower latency so you can do more applications such as push to talk, Tv solutions and things like that.

it wont be completely.

here is a hint for you.. dual mode phone. half of nextel's towers in 2007 will be on the cdma network. in 2007-2008 qchat will come out. i think if nextel/sprint execs cant get an ROI on the iden network then they will either 1. start selling some extra spectrum that they dont need or 2. start transforming their 800mhz spectrum to sprint's holdings.

any more questions or concerns let me know. if you wan...

Well I think they should keep the 800 spectrum. It is much better than the 1900. I might consider going back to Sprint for my cellular needs if they went into this direction. I love the Sanyo phones and I would prefer Fair-and-Flex over my current rollover. Hope they hold on to the cellular (800) spectrum.

they could keep all of the spectrum, if they wanted to. i was just saying if they have a surplus of spectrum, maybe they dont need the extra ones, but then again, more spectrum the better. however, you have to make sure your getting an ROI on it. remember, nextel/sprint has a lot of mmds spectrum to deploy wimax or flarion or td-cdma. so dont worry too much about ev-do rev a when wimax, flarion and td-cdma are out there.

OK, you got my interest. What the heck is wimax, flarion, and td-cdma.

wimax is a technology that is wireless of course, sort of like WIFI (i guess it might be considered an enhanced version of it, but not 100 percent sure on that). wimax, which intel supports, says that it speeds would go up to 75mb/s with a radius of coverage for up to 30 miles. intel is saying and thinking that mobile handsets would be rolled out in the 2007 time frame. actually sprint is doing a test over their DO network as we speak.

flarion is ofdm, which is Orthogonal Frequency Division Modulation. they just came out with this upgrade called flexband. here are some things about it... A single 1.25MHz Flexband carrier sector will be able to deliver peak downlink data rates of 5.3Mbps, 1.8Mbps uplink, 2.5Mbps sustainable sect...

The turth is that nextel18 doesn't know. There is no plan to make Sprint's current ReadyLink compatible with Nextel's PTT. Nextel and Sprint demonstrated the compatibility of QChat and Nextel PTT at CTIA. That will be the bridge solution. There is not any software that will make the current solutions compatible. Sorry.

"There is no plan to make Sprint's current ReadyLink compatible with Nextel's PTT"

yes there is. the execs at nextel/sprint merger announcment said that as well at other investor relations conferences. (shows how much YOU know or dont know)

there will be a gateway that qualcomm and motorola are making so that readylink users can DC to nextel users.

"Interoperability gateway and potential dual-mode handsets" (from the slide show) " (from 2006-200😎

" Nextel and Sprint demonstrated the compatibility of QChat and Nextel PTT at CTIA"

we know that. that will be out in the 2007-2008 time frame.

the over all biggest difference is this. verizon went and bought all there equipment and installed it.

sprint on the other bought equipment then set it up on portions of there network and began extensive testing they found the bugges they tweeked the buggs and realy feneced it.

verizon got there ev-do out first, however has had lots of buggs and is not performing near as well as they liked

sprint on the other hand will role there ev-do out it will be a very refined and very stable product. overall it will be the exact same equi...
