4G REQUIRES NEW PHONES FOR SERVICE ON SPRINT

I was at the Sprint store today, the manager tells me that the new 4G and 4G Wimax (which will be turned on in the Austin, TX area and other cities soon) will require an individual to purchase new Sprint phones in order to get 4G and/or 4G Wimax. This also includes current Sprint Broadband Cards as well. Current phones on 3G can not be upgraded by firmware for 3G.
I was told that such new hardware would be available sometime in November, a month before the Christmas Holidays begins.

They lied to you, you can still use your 3g devices, and there aren't any planned 4g phones yet, and probably wont be until late, late 2010. Now if you want to use 4g wimax, you can get a 3g/4g usb card.

Nonsense! That would be a "go out of business strategy". Either you're lying, or he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I'm confused... I think the OP was saying that if you wanted to take advantage of 4g speeds, you need to get a 4g compatible device, correct?
