After purchasing a usb cord from a sprint store sprint tech support has informed me that the phone does not have the ability to directly connect to a computer.

I live in a fringe service area and the upload to their website does not work.

I find it difficult to beleive that a usb cable can only be used to charge the battery $20 ill spent.

Might there be an application that would allow direct communication. Now I remove the card and place in a PDA and copy the files accross.

I'm talking to Sprint tech support at the moment. I've been cut off twice when called back from customer followup.

Is there a logical reason that the phone does not have the ability to do a hard connect with a computer 👿

Sorry, in my fit of frustration and rage, I neglected to specify the phone; Sprint Motorola Renegade v950. I was on the 950 thread earlier and wrongly supposed that I was still there.

I merely want do move pictures from the phone to my computer and possibly music as well. One would assume the mini sb card would be accessible thorough a USB connection.

Thank you for the response

when you plug the cable in it will only recognize it as a modem. the only way you would be able to access anything through a data cable is if you have software that is made for that. the easiest way to transfer music, pics, and videos are through the SD card. most new computers have a slot specifically for an sd card. you put it in and it should pop up and ask you if you want to browse the files or add files and so on. don't waste your money on a cable, because you cant do anything with it but use it for phone as a modem

Actually, the cable WILL WORK for music and file transfers. I know this because I own one and a cable I bought at Radio Shack.

Have you ever tried using the SD card

all you have to do is find the drivers for the phone. a 2 second google search will do that for you.

the phone will work with an usb connection. you can access the mem card then too.

🙄 at the people who claim you cant

When I attempt music transfer it says to connect the usb cable but does not recognize that the cable is plugged in, and will not respond to the "continue" button.

The cable was purchased at a Radio Shack/Sprint Store; it is an iGo cable maybe that is the problem. Its nice to know that someone has got it to work.

Neither the phone nor computer will recognize the cable. Possibly the cable is not manufactured for data, rather for charging only. The worst part is I purchased the cable in a town 125 miles from my home while visiting family.

The only thing that pops up is my blood pressure.

I make wine and to match the quality of most products I purchase I sometimes contemplate only filling the bottle half full or adding a good dose...

You have a Micro USB Charging cable, take it back and exchange it and ask for a different one, if they say that they only have that type ask to exchange it for one that came with a phone in a box, or have them test a new cable on one of their computers before you walk out. If they can't do ask manager or associate for a refund.

There is a difference in cables, sounds like the guy who order that store's inventory order the wrong cable, I've done it before with a Instinct cable.

Sorry for the confusion. Tech support won't be able to do anything because there really isn't anything wrong, if it is a charging USB cable it's doing it's job and nothing else.

we have some of those. the old manager screwed up our order and we got those. we sell them for half of what a normal usb cable is, since well, it only does half the work
