sprint lost 1.3 millie again

Cellenator

Feb 19, 2009, 10:12 AM
Sprint Nextel said Thursday that it lost 1.3 million subscribers in the final three months of 2008.

This marks an 8 percent decline from the 53.8 million total subscribers Sprint had at the end of 2007. Notably, it also dropped Sprint below the 50 million mark!!!

$1.6 billion loss

I'll give my take on all this later.

you can't put a lawsuit on someone for being fired when there location closed.

Verizon had nothing to do with the closing of Circuit City.

and not all of them were laid off.

And the ones who were, where were they suppose to put them if the stores and call centers were full??

Verizon MAY have superior call quality in the few areas they offer PCS service. Where they offer cellular, it's not even close! Cellular service is an older technology that is incapable of having even comparable, much less better, call quality.

As for roaming, I'll enjoy being able to roam more on Sprint. While many see that as a downside, I see it as an upside. In other words, you roam more on Sprint, but you CAN roam more on Sprint. The best roam

Obviously, you didn't read any of the responses below the article- particularly, the ones that point out how ALL wireless carriers place exception clauses in unlimited plans to protect themselves from abuse.

Verizon also has an "unreasonable usage" clause attached to their unlimited plans contained in the fine print.

Today we announced fourth-quarter results consistent with the outlook we provided for the quarter. Throughout 2008, we continued to make progress on our top three priorities, and we have established an improved operational foundation for 2009, but we have yet to turn the corner and we are far from satisfied.

With the current economic environment, it is essential we maintain a solid cash position. In the fourth quarter, we generated free cash flow in excess of $500 million, retired $1 billion in debt and ended the quarter with $3.7 billion of cash in the bank. With aggressive cost action and careful management of our cash position, we can meet all debt obligations through the end of 2010.

Also in the fourth quarter, our trend of post-pa...

Sprint, the third-largest wireless operator in the U.S., said it lost about 1.3 million subscribers during the fourth quarter. It now has about 49.3 million subscribers. The majority of the losses came from the highly coveted contract-customers, of which Sprint lost about 1.1 million.

Sprint's continued customer loss comes as bigger rivals AT&T and Verizon Wireless add customers. AT&T reported last month that it added 2.1 million subscribers during the fourth quarter, while Verizon Wireless added 1.4 million.

Most of the iDEN defection has been due to the economy, which has been on a downturn for a lot longer than the current recession.

Since the vast majority of Nextel's client base are businesses, then it stands to reason that luxuries like cellphones are the first to go.

No one said they should GIVE these subscribers away. They would of course have to be compensated accordingly. The dumbest thing was bailing Nextel out in the first place. Next dumbest was neglecting what were previously the most loyal subscribers in America and in effect driving them out the door. How about third? Basically, having no idea what to do with IDEN. Were they going to service the IDEN network or relocate them to the CDMA network with this QChat? I guess they have given up on that. They now are pushing...

I think what people fail to realize is that these numbers are not a true representation of actual "customers" or "accounts". Now I have worked for Sprint for almost 3 years now, and i ma sure that any employee will agree that the name of the game, up until a year ago, was "slamming lines" or adding lines for people who weren't eligible for upgrades, or customers who didn't have insurance and damaged or lost their phones. Every employee in the company was doing the same thing, adding a line for $9.99 a month, getting the customer a new phone and swapping the device from it's new number on to the customers daily used number. So a single customer with 1 phone could commonly have 1 or sometimes 2 extra lines that weren't even being used.
