Anyone here have the Compass 597?
Anyone here have this Aircard? if so, im looking to get it. It says that it is GPS enabled, but just wanna ask:
Is it possible to plug it into your laptop and take a drive and it gives you turn by turn directions or no? or does it just give locations to nearest hotels, restaurants etc?

I think GPS is on there to open up the creativity of how companies can use it in the future, to charge for the service. Just like how you can use turn-by-turn on your cellphone, but on a nice laptop screen instead. But then again, There will be a lot of controversy with how a laptop screen is a HUGE distraction when on the road. Don't know if it will pass any regulation to approve the use of GPS on a laptop.

Have'nt posted in a while but since I know this one I'll chime in.
The GPS in the air cards works as a stand alone GPS reciever, much like a Bluetooth GPS puck. If you have one and you have a program on your computer that will access the stand alone GPS from the air card then you can do all the things you were asking about in your OP. So, find an app for your laptop that will use an external GPS reciever through USB and whamo, really big Telenav.
