Anyone Have Qchat Specs?
I know it operates on EVDO Rev. A, but It would be nice to have some specifics on how it works.
From what I understand EVDO Revision A. is a slight upgrade to the EVDO Revision 0 equipment that involves more fiber lines and a software upgrade.
My question about Qchat is does it require that EVDO Rev. A specific software to function period or does it just require the Rev A. speed to connect as fast as they are advertising that it will (connections in less than 1 second)?
If a customer was in a situation where they were in an area that was EVDO Rev. 0 would the service still work just not as well (like Sprint Navigation and TV & Radio)?
Any specific information would be helpf...

It will not operate on EVDO Rev 0 or 1xRTT.
That is for one CDMA Direct Connect Device to another.
If you're initiating a direct connect call to an IDEN device (including Powersource), the CDMA device must be in an EVDO Rev A area, but the IDEN device can be anywhere on the Sprint IDEN network.
The reason for this is the selling point. It's Direct Connect. People who currently use Direct Connect know that means sub-second connection times. If it were to operate on EVDO Rev 0 or 1xRTT, that would be lost and would defeat the purpose.
And believe me, that selling point is crucial. After having ...

They do not appear to have restricted us from ordering them, and we do not have EVDO Revision A. Currently we have been told that Sprint TV and Navigation will not work in our market either, but we do not have a problem with these features. A quarter of our city is upgraded to Revision A. The rest is still Revision 0. My store is in the non-upgraded area and we have demo phones playing Sprint TV and Radio all day and we have a demo Navigation phone.
I really want to set up something to demonstrate Qchat, but I do not understand what they are doing. I do not want to order the phones and bring them into our store if they will specificall...

I hope so as a DC user and having waited forever for qchat, I hope it meets my expectations...or back to Nextel till it dies! 🤣
My guess is that it potentially/theoretically would work in rev-0 but that the latency would kill the point of it, so it's forced to work in rev-A only. That's pure speculation until I have a unit to try in person, but seems reasonable.
Unless someone who has had hands on time with one can advise otherwise, I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

That is entirely correct.
To quote our Sanyo Rep, "You have to have EVDO Revision A, otherwise you have Ready-Link."
Currently, only two test-markets are equipped with EVDO Rev. A and the Q-Chat gateways that allow the CDMA handsets to connect to IDEN handsets. When the phones launch, that will be increased to forty.
You will only be able to make Direct Connect calls from these 40 Markets, to anyone else in those 40 markets on one of the CDMA Direct Connect handsets, or to anyone on the IDEN network.
As much as I wish that they'd allow it to flow backw...

I SERIOUSLY wanted one bad. I need a second phone for my business within the next 30 days though and I just cannot wait that long.

Direct Connect by Sprint (Q Chap, HPPTT) will be launched in Denver and Kansas 1st. Then the following "eligible markets" will follow. DC by Sprint will only work on Sprint's Rev.A network. I had the chance to demo the Pro Series, and it DC worked great to other iDen and CDMA DC calls. The messaging from CDMA DC to CDMA DC was buggy. Wasn't able to send, due to error 200, and if you fall into 1xRTT, DC didn't work. I hope these glitches get fixed before launch.
How do you key in a number from an iDEN phone to DC a QChat phone? Do you add asterisks anywhere into the mobile number?
