Power Vision

Does anyone know if Sprint has any plans to release a Power Vision phone that has a flip out keyboard? I've been eyeing the Rumor, but I don't want to downgrade to Vision. I use the net on my phone enough to want to keep Power Vision, but not enough to warrant purchasing a PDA with a QWERTY keyboard.

Unfortunately, it seems that there isn't anything like that in the pipeline currently. But considering the prices of some of the smartphones, they may not be a bad option if having a QWERTY with EVDO is that important.(For example, the Centro is only $99.99 after rebates.)

where did you hear this. Our LG rep did tell us that a phone similar to the voyager will be coming out soon, but I've heard nothing about the Rumor with Power Vision

Whatever the case, it just seems to me like Sprint should've had a non-smartphone EVDO QWERTY by now. Even Helio has the Ocean, so I don't see what's taken Sprint so long to get a dumb EVDO QWERTY handset, unless the strategy has been to entice general consumers to pick up smart devices. Just for the record, I almost got the Centro, and I would've gotten the Rumor if it had EVDO. But apparently lacking EVDO didn't deter those who scooped up the Rumor.

If I am not mistaken, the Rumor is targeted for the text messaging market that does not typically use Power Vision. Palm came out with the lesser expensive Palm device in order to attract those who like to text and want Power Vision but do not want the big bulky phone, like the old Treo's use to be.

The point is (Even though I agree with you) Customers want cost efficient phones that have full text keypads that SLIDE or FLIP or SPIN out. They like the novelty of it. Like the Rumor, the Sidekick, and the ENV.

Customers want a phone that is packed with novelties not business sense. The majority of people would trade Microsoft Exchange server compatibility and Nuance Voice control for a ringtone maker and FM radio on their phone.

The Centro is a fantastic phone with a great feature set and excellent signal reception, but it is still a bit on the bulky side and doesn't have any moving parts like a sliding keypad and the menus are not visually interesting.

The overall style of smartphones has for the most part over the years remai...

making the rumor without powervision WAS a bad idea. I'd probably switch to it if it was power vision capable.

Now I'm thinkin blackberry pearl/curve or treo 755.
