Could someone compare these two phones for me? I know the a680 has a video recorder and the 8200 doesn't. And I know the 8200 has speakerphone and the a680 doesn't. What are your opinions on each? They cost the same with Sprint PCS service, so if you could choose, which would you get?

It depends on what you really want from your phone... features or better service/reception?

I and several other SPCS users (all of which are current or former employees of SPCS including myself) have had several phones and used them in various parts of the country and we have always found that SANYO gives you the best/most consistent reception...period. I personally prefer the style and features of SAMSUNG phones but I will probably never have another SAMSUNG phone because of weak signal issues. I've carried at least 6 different SAMSUNGS & 6 different SANYOS (including the 8200) and this has always been the case. I'm currently using the SANYO 5500(VM4500).

*An interesting sidenote is that I've seen SAMSUNG phones outperform other br...

Ok...I own both phones on a shared plan. I have the a680 and my girlfriend has the 8200.
The Sanyo has a bigger screen and takes better pictures in the dark, but does not have the video capabilities. It has a speakerphone (which the a680 does not) and PTT, but that is it. The a680 takes it from here with a multitude of things that the 8200 cannot do. It has a screen on the outside of the phone that can display pictures and works as a veiwer for the camera when the flip is closed. Don't worry about trying to use your 8200's camera when the flip is closed. The 8200's ringer volume is terrible and the speakerphone sucks and doesn't pick up your voice unless you shout into it. The Samsung has the beautiful blue backlit keys. Does the S...

I like the look of the Samsung better but it falls short in two areas that I find are the most important. You can't hear the ringers and you can't feel the vibrate. I hate to miss calls. Compare the ringers of the two phones in the store and you will see. I don't understand the post where it said the 8200 has soft ringers. Sanyo phones have the loudest ringers for Sprint.

I've owned both samsung and sanyo.

first of all know what you are talking about before you say something. You can use the camera on the 8200 when it is shut. Trust me on that one, I sell them and I own one as well, and I love my phone, I used to have the 680, but didn't like it.

Actually I have found that the a680 has just as many "toys" as the 8200.
