message confusion

I'm a Sprint "newbie" and am confused and disappointed by Sprint's messaging facilities ... they weren't what I expected ... but I understand that changes (improvements?!?!) are coming. I'd like to better understand the messaging systems out there ... can anyone recommend where I can get info on the various standards (including the newer ones: EMS & MMS)?

spcs's text messaging is the worst!!! they call it "short mail" & it is a total nightmare to use - you to have log-in to vision/web and then go thru so many menus that you're about to cry by the time you send your "quick" text message! anyway, its the worst & i have used text messaging on all of the carriers networks and spcs's is by far the worst to use and the most unreliable! my suggestion - if text messaging is really important to you - switch carriers like i did! 😉

The other version of messaging commonly used is called MO-SMS. Rumor has it that Sprint is trying to implement this, but no one knows for sure. If you are really unhappy with the shortmail and have vision go to www.3gupload.com i believe they have an app there that will allow you to send a message without logging on to the web.

The app doesn't appear to be there anymore.

It sends txt messages through shortmail without you having to log onto the web. You will still recieve them the same way as before.

The name of an identical application is called sendnote or minisendnote. They are available from www.apgap.com. unfortunately, at the moment i am unable to bring up the page. Hopefully you will have better luck.

Most of Sprint's current phones have regular SMS texting... no more short mail! Just get a modern phone and you should be good.

Yeah sprintpcs sms services are a bad joke, and one that most can't escape! At www.Dictomail.com there is a free demo for their voice-mail conversion services. This service promises to get your messages to you regardless of the hardware or service provider that you have, and they say they'll do it in a minute or less!! Beat that Sprint!!

I honestly didn't know Sprint Pcs still used Short mail, I thought all the newer handsets used SMS, which is more instant, and you don't have to log on to the internet, the message just pops up, so you can read it (right then and there).?
