Sprint Employees Bashing Motorola

My wife and I are current sprint customers (past 4 years). We went to 2 different sprint stores this weekend and the sales rep at each one essentially told us not to buy any phones from the Motorola line. They didn't give any specific reason other than that the RAZR, KRZR, etc. were buggy and unreliable.

I've read through the RAZR and KRZR reviews here on phonescoop, but since the reviews are from all users of Motorola on all carriers its difficult to get a straight answer.

I like the feel of the RAZR & KRZR and want to get one, but not if 4 months from now I'll be having problems. We prefer to stay with Sprint due to other family members on sprint and can essentially call them for free (PCS to PCS).

Anyone care to share s...

the RAZR for sprint just has VERY SLOW software (especially the red razr) and the battery life is very sub par. i try to sell customers into other phones whenever possible.

you should be glad that you have a sales person that is honest with you rather than feed you lies just to get the sale.

Dunno', the whole RAZR thing came about because of exposure. You're talking about the best selling wireless handset ever. It transcended carriers (available through all of them) and started making people loopy for all things thin... With that many phones in circulation, you're bound to have that many more returns or exchanges...

Actually, I heard Moto bashing well BEFORE the RAZR. When I worked at SprintPCS, they had no Motos in the line-up anymore, and I was told that it was b/c they were such horrible phones. When I went to work for T-Mo, none of my coworkers would even want to touch a Moto. The cute, small, peanut looking C225 was always having their batteries completely die, and the bat...

NO battery life, and you NEED it, being a PDA.

The thing is just awful, I won't even sell one unless they just insist upon it.

The software in the phone is slightly tweaked to go with the whole product(red) thing. never have I seen a phone take 30 seconds to type in a single letter to do a text message.

i have not personally seen the phone, so i will assume you are not lying, lol.

i have heard of serious issues with it, but i assumed that it was just a bad batch that happened to be the red ones.

good to know, thanks for correcting me.

Uhm we have had MANY returns on the RED RAZR three since they came out. We are burning them like crazy, we sent 1 back, and 2 are in teh back because the text wont work properly on one, and the other one just WONT ACTIVATE. We switched the red razr out for grey ones and NO PROBLEMS all software, texting, activations went smoothly and made the customer happy, i dunno what it is about the red razr, i guess it has aids

The Moto RAZR line requires charging the battery every night and the OS is sluggish... In other words it takes a while for the phone to wake up when you open the flip or after selecting an option, etc. I'm sure the rep was doing his best to not have you come back in with the 'well, my last phone can go for days w/o charging' spiel.

As far as call quality goes, it depends on location & network. Some people have complained of an echo but a lot of times it is caused from the condenser mic or whatever high-speed dealie they have installed causing it. It actually helps w/ the overall call quality but produces a reverse affect (an actual delay or echo) when on a sub-par network or out of the way locale...

I sell the phones alot. They do have sluggish software, but they overall aren't bad phones. you have to expect low battery life from a slim phone. I dont think the KRZR is worth the price tag on it but besides that they are good phones. RAZRS sell in my store for 19.99

Agreed on the KRZR. We can speculate on the talk time, though, hovering around 1 min, 32 secs or so...??? ๐Ÿ˜

Talk time is #1 factor for my wife. She uses it for work and spends 3-4+ hours on it. She currently has the Sanyo 4920 which she loves (5.5 hrs talk), but is a little worn. (Dog got a hold of it). Unfortunately nobody makes a phone with 5+ hours TT. Except for the Sanyo 4930, which apparently is being discontinued by Sprint.

If your looking for talk time the razr is not the phone for you neither is the katana. Best bet would be Fusic or Sanyo 8400. If you get a fusic make sure it is ver V12

That shouldn't make a difference, and some reps won't know the difference. I got one of the first ones and it is a great phone. Even with heavy internet use, music, and 2 hours a day the batery lasts a solid day and a half, sometimes longer. It is a great overall phone, and has a listed talk time of four and a half hours. Lets not forget that with sprint we can download any software updates over the air.

Ok, maybe not 3-4 hours everyday but the way everyone is describing TT on razr she would need to fully recharge at least twice a day.

With moderate to heavy use, Charge once every day, with the possibility of having to also use the car charger. The fusic operates more smoothly and has excellent battery life. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Moto products are not bad, they're just not good either. You can get a MUCH MUCH better phone for way less money IMO. I personally have not had any of the Sprint Moto phones returned for catastrophic failure, just slow UI and poor battery life. So, if you have your heart set on a Moto, go for it, but now you know what you are getting into.

i dunno about getting the much better phone for less money thing. That is dependant on the store you are getting it at. Because my store offers razor for 19.99 there is no other phone under that i can consider better then that.

Yes there are, especially for current customers. ๐Ÿ™„ I'd rather pay 50 for a fusic, or get an LG LX150 (if I didn't care about camera or multi-media) for free.

Im a techician for Sprint and i've dealt with a wide variety of issues involving the RAZR and KRZR models. There have been problems with test messaging, phones freezing up, and on and on. Of course i can still remember dealing with problems with the motorola startacs way back in the day. On the other hand ive had very few problems with the Q. Im not sure if this is because it is windows based or what but it just seems to be a much more soundly built device. I think for a lot of people you either love these lines of phones or you hate them, depending on your own experiences.
Personally i think there are a lot of better phones out there with even more features. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well I am thinking about getting the Q, and I hae heard mixed messages on it, good and bad. What whone do you suggest if one whated a phone similar to the q?

Also do you know is the Q with Sprint is the grey slippery one or the Q black with a grip?

thanks in advance

I sell both verizon and sprint, and have had both the sprint and verizon versions of the razr, krazr, and the Q in store.
Across the board all three phones have MANY more issues on the sprint side. I sold 13 verizon razrs last week and not one has come back with an issue. In contrast I sold 7 sprint razrs and 5 have been exchanged. The complaints are battery life (much worse than verizon version) and software issues (slow, can not answer a call while typing a text, phone locking up).

The Q issues on verizon's side have been mostly sorted out, the Q with sprint did not have any problems with the phone itself, the battery life was ok for the usage ( couple of hours talk time, email, and internet use each daily) but it has an issue with in...
