Upgrade Plan Without New 1-Year Extension

I've had 2 SE T610's with the Basic Family Plan for 19 months and would like to upgrade the plan to the new Basic Family with 500 minutes and free nights, but keep the old phones for now. The T-Mobile Rep wanted a 1-year contract extension which seems very steep for the 100 extra minutes and free nights. Since I am NOT upgrading the phones is there a way to do this without a contract extension?
(Otherwise Cingular with free Razr but new contract seems awfully tempting.)

A newer promotional offer for the same price, and you don't want to sign the 1 yr agreement? Sorry, it doesn't work like that. We will give you more for the same amount of money, and you in turn agree to stay with us for another twelve months. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Renewing your contract now without changing phones will not preclude your ability to buy new ones at a discount at a later date. One thing you should be aware of is that the plan you are on does not qualify you for the maximum discount on new phones, however. You will certainly get a discount, but the difference in price between your cost and maximum discount actually depends on the specific handset.

Since that is totally a promo plan, you (and anyone else who wants that plan) need a contract extension to get it. Non-promo plans (plans that do not incl nts at no cost) do not require a contract extension. Ba...

Is it just me, or does "Razr phones with a two year contract" sound an awful lot like "Up Sh!t Creek without a paddle?" I sure wouldn't want to be holding a Motorola for a year after the warranty is up with no upgrade discount in sight!

But that's just me... 🙄

Oh, trust me, it's not just you. Just about everyone in my department agrees 110% with you. 🤣

Yeah, it was hilarious--remember a while ago when you could get a V300 free on upgrade because of the web site offer? All of a sudden there's like mass numbers of them all over the call center, then when the exchange option for Nokias came around they all disappeared and now it's all about the 6600's... 🙄

Me, I just keep plugging away with my Samsungs and never have a single reason to complain... 😎

If you are too cheap to do the contract, you can always add unlimited nights for $5.00 per month per line. This is going to cost you $120.00 over the course of a 12 month term, so you might as well suck it up and do the contract to get the extra 100 minutes and free nights at no additional cost to you. Did you know, throughout one month of service that adds up to 11,620 additional minutes given to you for no extra cost??!! Take the deal, it's the best in the industry!

Actually, I double checked that plan and didn't see a version that didn't include nights, so it's either get the plan with a contract, or go to another carrier, pay more, and a 2 yr contract.

I think you're comparing apples to oranges here. You're willing to sign a two year contract for Cingular, but not another one year contract with T-Mobile.

Where did you find the razr for free? The best prices that I've found so far are $140-150 with a two year contract.

Also on upgrading - you might check what your upgrade options are at an authorized dealer instead of a corporate store. Agents use a different system for upgrades. They can often give the same discount regardless of the price plan that you are on. The thing is, you either have to be off contract or in the last month of your contract. So, shop around and see what sort of prices people can offer you.

A word of caution with agents (I am one - so I can say this w...

You should also be able to get new phones with the plan upgrade if you go to a corporate store.
