Tmo 3G Expansion plans

NokiaTMo

Jan 16, 2009, 12:01 PM
Does TMo have any plans to start rolling out more 3G coverage? It just seems odd that they bought all that spectrum a while back, but their 3G footprint is much smaller than AT&T. Granted they are a bit smaller company, but doesn't it hurt their ability to attract and keep techies? I admit to being a bit of a techie myself so I am more concerned about such things, but its starting to get to the point where AT&T seems like the better option even if just to take advantage of 3G, if TMo does not plan on rolling out 3G to more markets. I live in Columbus, OH so I understand that if I were in a big city it wouldn't be an issue since Tmo does cover those with 3G.

No, they don't plan on expanding it. Actually, they're going to start shutting down some of their 3G towers and go back to GPRS.

Is it a money issue or is that just their market strategy - to stay 2G?

I'm really sorry to hear this. I will be sure to spread the word...

For someone used to the T-Mobile network, any suggestions for places to go as they shut down their 3G service?

So apparently NokiaTMo isn't the only one who doesn't get sarcasm.
T-MOBILE IS NOT SHUTTING DOWN THEIR 3G NETWORK.
For crying out loud, of course they are expanding it.

If you want 3G make the switch or go home to use the computer. Its not a huge deal to have a few second difference in the web browsing. 🙄

for someone who claims to be a "techie" you sure are very uninformed.

hence why nobody hear will legitimately answer your question.

I was referring to the "techie nerd" aspect of being in to stuff that isn't necessarily bread and butter, critical functionality (eg, 3G is nice but is ultimately a bonus not a necessity)

I think a serious question should get a serious answer !! Why the rudeness if you don't know an answer to something don't try to crack a joke it really is kinda dumb and it makes your iq look and seem very low ! Tell this guy if you know when and where t-mobiles 3g coverage will expand

Alright I read all the posts and felt sorry for you dude. ☚ī¸
The Internet can be such a cruel place. 😈

And the first poster's reply is correct TMO will begin shutting down their 3G in favor of tin cans & string. đŸ¤Ŗ

Kidding...

Here's a quote from TMO's senior engineering VP Neville Ray.

Ray also outlines much more aggressive plans for T-Mobile's American 3G network and says the carrier plans to "double" its coverage in 2009. Multiple new HSPA-capable phones should also be available, as will the company's first real data card for notebooks.

Hope this answers your question.
