I am planning to move from Sprint to T-mobile for the new Blackberry Pearl 8120. I was just at a store in SF and they wouldn't negotiate the phone price ($149 after rebate) or the plan price ($29.99 for 300 min plus $9.99 unlimited email). They offered to wave the $35 activation fee. Has anyone had success negotiating for better prices or for anything else?
Thanks.

Thats a pretty good deal as is, it seems like they have worked with you alot.

A few ways to acomplish this...
1) Tmo corporate stores in my area will match any Walmart advertisied price. Add the 8120 to your cart on walmart.com and print it out. Then take it to them.
2)I am sure I will get flamed for this...but... if you know what rate plan you want... Then goto http://www.1shopwireless.com/pearl8120.asp I got an 8820 Curve from them for FREE + 50 Tmo mail in rebate, plus free bluetooth headset. I highly recomend them. I had no issues at all. They are not one of these sleezy indirect dealers.... They are a Tmobile VAR (Valu Added Reseller). Tmobile actually ships you the phone when you place your order with them. So you can change your rate plan when ever you want. Some of these indirects that give you a deal wi...

If you are talking to a rep in a corporate store, you aren't going to have any luck getting discounts. It's called retail for a reason.
If you want negotiations, talk to an indirect 3rd party dealer. It's called a Dealer for a reason 😉

Most retail stores won't change the prices on the phones (especially if you're only activating 1 line) because they don't get paid a dime on the phone if it is changed. If you are going to try to get a retail rep to cut you a deal on the phone, they'll probably want you to feature load the account ($20 internet, text messaging, insurance, etc.)
As far as discounting the plans...no one outside of the retentions department in customer care has the authority to do this. don't get upset at the rep if he won't cut you a deal on the rate plan...he literally can't.
Price negotiating varies on the rep you talk to. If you do choose to go online, and if you need help from a retail store...DON'T SAY YOU GOT THE PHONE OFFLINE. the rep won't be ve...

If you want the phone cheaper get it online from an indirect dealer or find an indirect dealer. Plan wise you are SOL. For instance we sell the blackberry pearl 8100 for free.

T-Mobile Retail stores can and will match Walmart prices as long as you bring in printed proof. They need it to show their Retail Store Manager why they discounted the phone. Retail Stores WILL NOT and I repeat WILL NOT match online prices unless it is from t-mobile.com

Heres my $.02, negotiating a price for a phone is like going to a gas station and asking if they can cut u a deal on some premium. its worthless, if you want to negotiate, go to an auth dealer.
one thing i will admit is that its our own fault (the wireless industry) for people thinking they can "haggle" for a phone. when the US initially started wireless service, you could go to any carrier and they would throw the store at you, ALL FOR FREE!!!!! now, americans are so used to the old wireless mentality that its all they expect.
You should be thankful you live in the US and not Europe or Asia, those guys consider $200 for a phone DIRT CHEAP.
And then we complain because the US gets all the crap phones, and Europe/Asia get all the badass...

For my birthday I wanted to switch from Sprint to T-Mobile so I could get the Sidekick. My mom works for boeing and she brought home flyer with T-Mobile offers. It have several free phones, waived activation fees, and I think a free blutooth headset came with most phones. All we did is call this number and mention my mom worked for Boeing. We got the sidekick for $99, they waived the activation fee and shipping charges. Score !
Number is 866-464-8662. Don't make the mistake we did and press option2. for "new service" you need to press option 3. Way better pricing than t-Mobile retails store off Everett Mall Way..
