The phone is not subsidized so my guess is that you'll need to extend your contract or pay full price on the monthly fee. Bottom line, everyone pays full price on the phone.
...
For that price, it'd better be worth it!

goofed that up...
you pay full price and extend your contract, not or...
...
While nothing is for sure yet that is what we are hearing from corporate right now. new two year contract and full msrp or you can not get the phone at all.

Ain't no discounts to nobody, no subsidy pricing, no FAN discounts, no discounts for no one, no how no way. 🙄
...
That's awesome. That's what I was hoping for from the beginning, since I didn't expect Apple employees to be activating or renewing service through at&t.
Selling it like any other iPod or peripheral device is the best move.
...
From what i understand it wont be sold like an ipod. You will have to get a two year contract even though you are buying it for what they are calling full retail. If you are not on or willing to switch to at&t's network and not eligible for an ugrade you can not get the phone at all.
...
Ok I guess I should have been more clear, it is my fault, what I meant was if you are an existing Customer, how do you get an iphone without paying the full retail price, or are they going to offer it at what they are offering to new customers with a two year agreement?
...
What Japhy said is that everyone will pay the same price. New customers, existing customers, non-customers who just want the newest thing. Everyone pays retail.
...
You 4got about the Dumba55 ebay people paying double and tripple!! hahahahha
...
The info we just got from our account rep says that if you are not eligible for uprade then you cannot get the iphone at all. It is going to require full retail and a two year contract to get it. Supposibly even if you get it from an apple store you must go into at&t and get a new contract and then take that contract to the apple store before you can pick up your new phone.
...
Didn't cingular already say new and existing customers would be able to purchase the phone? There is no subsidy, and no reason to limit it.
And I sincerely doubt Apple will make you go back and forth between stores.. Thats patently ridiculous.
...
what if you are not eligible for an upgrade yet? Then no dice?
...
It doesn't matter. If what he said is correct, then eligibility doesn't matter. It's a retail purchase. It's like walking into Best Buy and buying an iPod.
I haven't heard anything to confirm IF that's how it's going to be sold though.
...
Are ya gonna buy one, ralph?
...
Nope, I already have an iPod with 60gigs on it.
When they release new ones in the future, I'll look at them though. I know there'll be an updated version out just in time for Christmas.
...
If the 6682 works good, then that'll be my phone. If not, then the 750 will be good for me {until At&t's version of the Q will come out}.
...
If all that is correct, then why would a customer want to sign a 2 yr contract for? Thats what at&t wants right? But i guess they may figure, hey if u wanna use that iphone u gotta stay with us!
...
Because they don't have a choice. A contract extension is required in order to purchase the iPhone. You also must activate the data plan (whatever that will be).

When it comes out it will only be available for new line, not upgrades.
...
I hope this isnt what is going to happen. Thats just throwing away alot of potential revenue, i would think they would wanna sell this to as many customers as possible. whats stopping people from canceling their service and signing back up to get it(as long as their out of contract)? i highly doubt it will only be exclusive to new customers.

Stocks will be very limited, so they will run out of stock before all the new activations are even done. All of these stipulations are why verizon didn’t take this phone on in the first place.
...
For the last time the Iphone will be available to new and current customers, a two year commitment is required to purchase the phone!!! Please be patient and you will see that I'm right . We have just started receiving trainings on the Iphone and I must say its pretty sweet I have a att 8525 to which I adore(HTC is God LOL)but the Iphone does some of the same things but in a more elegant and simple design , and not everyone is a power user like me so I see this Iphone appealing to a wider audience but tech nerds like me will most likely wait for the 3g version coming around the corner lol.

Believe it or not, but this is what we were told from att
...
so why would they tell you one thing and cor another? it won't be availible at launch without a contract. it will be availible for upgrades. it will be availibe for prepaid after initial launch.
...
If it wont be available without a contract at first, then why is att telling dealers to send customer to the apple website to order the phone instead of to cingular.com?

i ment it will require a contract at launch. and the only thing i cannot get answered is if it will be availible on the website or not. i've heard that telesales will have it, but not advertised.

...gonna be online. I've seen it on multiple BCS communications, and we've confirmed that with the overlord of Premier - no online sales for the iPhone through AT&T.
At launch it will be available through:
AT&T Mobility corporate locations (ie - not authorized dealers)
Apple brick & mortar stores
Apple.com
The latter two lend a high amount of credibility to the idea that it will be sold without contract at the full price.
