My current one year plan (which is a two phone shared plan) is up in July '04 with AT&T. If I wanted to port my numbers to Verizon right now...could I? What costs would I have to pay? Would I have to pay the $175 cancelation fee? Thanks

The nicer answer is,
Yes you COULD port over but since you are under contract you would need to pay for the ETF because you are ending your service with us early. Also be warned that when you cancel your account you are charged to the end of your billing cycle.

That's no longer the case on 3g accounts. Port outs cancel immediately, and customers are prorated. But yes, you would still be held to the cancellation fee..

Athena is right. GSM customers are no longer charged to the end of bill cycle for port outs. Pro Rated invoice.

you can start with a verizon number if u need your phone to work consistly. lower your att plan to their $19.99 to finish out your contract. when the time comes (out of contract) submit a porting request form and vzw can port your number over, cancel att automatically once port is complete, and change your number from temp. vzw # to originally att number. port request form process takes 5 days though, not as quick as switching at point of sale.
