A lot of ppl concluded that the guy who wrote the article was pretty uninformed. For one, its easier to have good coverage in Europe due to population density. America has a lot of vast empty spaces with few ppl in it, Europe, not so much. Also, going to one standard (i.e. following the government-mandate European model) wouldn't really help anything... look at a market like South Korea, one of the most advanced wireless markets in the world. Are they one standard? Nope, CDMA and GSM co-exist very happily.
