I think Verizon should get together with Microsoft and bring out the Zphone or ZUNE phone. Or LG and bring out the LG APPLE CORER. How about a MOTO SLICR as in apple slicer.

Who cares about iTunes, MP3 is much better, you can rip your own songs for free and get them from any place you want, iTunes and ipods are rip offs.

Its not like you really have to choose... iPods will play mp3s just fine, and iTunes will rip to mp3 just fine.
...
but with the lack of DRM, the industry will always look for alternatives to MP3
doesn't VZW use WMA now?
...
Not really an issue... if you want DRM, you can use AAC (MP4) like the iPod and iTunes does. If you don't want DRM, you can rip to MP3... iTunes will let you and the iPod will play it.
Thats one of the reasons why iTunes/iPod has been so successful... they got both ends covered.
Yeah, VZW does use WMA, it even converts all your mp3s to WMA... a bad thing, IMO.
...
it really is too bad
WMA Standard is yesterday's technology now
If VZW picks up WMA Pro, I'll be interested
...
Actually technically mp3 is yesterday's technology, not WMA. Both WMA and AAC/MP4 sound better than MP3 at the same bitrates. But you have to keep supporting MP3 because its what people have, and because it has the advantage (for some folks) of no DRM.
My beef is that VZW doesn't offer you the choice... converts everything to WMA whether you want it or not.
...
it leaves all your music the same, it only converts the files that are transfered to the phone. Your MP3's are all still on your computer, the phone is the only place where you will see the new WMA's
...
i have MP3's on my phone it doesn't force you to convert. it's an option.
...
it depends on your phone. As was stated elsewhere, the chocolate, krzr and a couple of other phones are set as mp3 enabled by default. My 8100 has mp3's on it because I enabled them in the programing menu.
but most phones, using the vcast music will convert the songs to wma as they are transfered, leaving mp3 on the desktop, wma on the phone.
...
Verizon sends you music files in wma format from vcast music, however ALL their music-capable phones can play regular mp3 files. If you have a phone that you want to enable to mp3 capability, you go into the phones programming menu and enable it. For your specific phone model, email me and Ill help you with it. Im WELL versed. VZW doesnt MAKE you do anything. You just got to know the ins and outs. I can help with that. Later!
...
Most new phones like the enV, Chocolate, Krzr, and vx8600 support MP3s. Here's a quote from these phones guides, "Music Player (supports MP3 and WMA formats)."
...
Okkkkkkkkkkk....too bad you can download songs on Limewire, and transfer them from itunes onto an Ipod and the same with CDs so I have no idea what you are talking about.

Our store bought ipods and duck tape them to the back of all the phones we have in the store

I can see that, not because the iPhone is break-through device, but because the consumer is very dumb and will buy it because it has an "i" in front of it.

Right answer. The proposed iPhone is more locked down for third-party applications and media than anybody imagined after seeing the demo in January at the MacWorld event.

I might buy a Zune if they added PlaysForSure and had videos on Zune Marketplace. I am selling my Zen Micro and getting an iPod Video. I was considering the Zune, but after learning about those two issues, I decided to get an iPod. I am going to Best Buy this weekend to buy it. I'm going to get a 30 GB white. š

Verizon might cripple what i call the "brown squirt" (when a brown zune shares music with another) it might work thru only 1 play throu, or it will be gone in 5 minutes, or you can't squirt V-cast music.
Either way, the Zune on a cellphone is probably ganna be uglier then sin š³

Have you seen the pictures of it? It doesn't look too bad, except that it has a tiny screen.

Iphone sucks and cingular/att sucks worse. There will be some ipodophiles and technuts who will waste their $500 on it and be dissapointed. Just you watch. This message board will light up with issues form people airing their dirty laundry about an over-hyped device. Edge only? WTF? Look this aint europe or japan with free wifi in the streets everywhere. In the colonies here the majority of the time the net will reside on the carrier connection and edge is lacklastuer compared to more modern technologies.
And the ipod capability? so the F--- what? My Q has windows media player and I really dont need to see the album cover to play the damn songs i want. Most $49+ phones have a music player supporting wma and mp3 files. So the Iphone ...

no kinux on cellphones...not for tech reasons at all. matter of fact, how cool would it be to have open cell phone operating systems being developed. Not the issue.
It's for business, PDA's that is. Anyone who does not use it as a business productivity tool only has it for a cool factor. One of the people that works for me only texts with it. He call occasionally but is a text fiend. Coulda got the V or enV. He got the Q cuz he thought it was cool. I'm for cool phones and the original V wasn't it (not bad but looked like a hoagie bun).
Still, the Windows mobile is a better and more familiar platform that do not reside in the world of 'tech'. The business person needs something that requires little to no learning that can easily interf...
