Eris question

So I clicked on the Amazon link here and was nerding about the site, decided to read the reviews and found they were very heavy on freezing issues with this phone; to be fair, almost all of the reviews were in Dec but I'm wondering if this issue has been fixed or was it just an abberation on one or two phones. I'm thinking of upgrading my son to this phone, he's using a Pearl now. In the store this was fun to play with.

I haven't heard of that issue. It's a very good phone. There have been a couple software updates as well and a pretty major update to 2.1 any day for the Eris.

just remember that most people don't write a review of something if everything is going well.

The Freezing issues would most likely be because people weren't shutting down apps

Amen, my friend.

I always point out that I don't have dozens of customers walking into my store each day, handing me their phone, and saying, "I love my phone and have no issues with it." It just doesn't happen. And yet, we sell thousands to millions of phones all the time.

I own the Eris, and any freezing that I've encountered was the result of application compatibility issues. I'm waiting on the 2.1 update, because I bought this phone with 2.x in mind solely because I prefer the Eris' experience to that of the Droid.

From what I've read, people who are using the leaked 2.1 update are generally experiencing even better performance (although there are a considerable amount of known issues that'd drive me crazy, so I'm waiting for the official OTA update).

A lot of people prefer the Motorola models because of their physical keyboards, but I'd say that physical keyboards just feel like a chore after using the HTC keyboard. The auto-correct is amazing, and I can even type very quickly with it in portrait vie...

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, everyone. I had the feeling from the reviews that it was probably isolated to a few phones (there's always a few stinkers eh?). After watching the utube's on this phone I was anxious to try it out in the store and it was a lot of fun to use. By comparison the Droid interface wasn't as smooth, Sense is really great (if it can mask winmo on the HD2 it can hide anything lol). As a BB user I'm really thinking of making my next phone some kind of Android. I'm hoping when my ne2 is up in Oct that Vz is getting some kine of 4.3" love from HTC. I think the Holiday Season will bring out some amazing new phones.

I got this in the buy one get one free offer back in December. My dad's phone worked perfectly, mine however did not. The phone is amazing, but I was coming from a MyTouch and G1 and this phone made calls on it's own, would get stuck on the lock screen and it would just generally have issues all day. My dad has not seen one of these issues on his phone.

It seemed to be hit or miss when the phone first came out. I work for Verizon and I haven't heard the same complaints from other customers that I had with this phone, so I'm assuming either the issue has been fixed or there was a bad shipment.

I know; seems to be a crapshoot. You can't always tell, you just gotta go for it sometimes.

Yeah, when reading everything about root, I went back to my rooted MT3G and TMO. Thinking about going back to Verizon for their N1 though.

All phones have bad shipments though, I went through 5 Razrs before I had one that worked and it still works. Same thing with my G1. Just look for things that go wrong and call Tech Support immediately so they can send you a new one.

I'm a little late to the party - but I own the Eris, and can't say enough good things about it as well. I preferred Sense UI to the vanilla android on Droid (although the Droid is amazing). My big issue with the Droid is I couldn't type on the keyboard - the HTC version is just phenomenal and coming from Blackberry I adjusted just fine to the virtual keyboard. The Droid's physical keyboard was nothing to write home about either... I don't have freezing issues at all and am anxiously awaiting the update to 2.0 or 2.1 or whatever comes along...
