Why is the Verizon phone selection horrible...

vzw tests their phones a lot more extensivley than other carriers.

The public has the mentality of a herd of raccoons (what's that called?). "Oooohhh, look how shiny, oo I love it." Does it work when you need it to? "I don't care! Dude! Look how shiny it is!"
P.S.: I'm not knocking anyone, I'm one of those raccoons.
Test, my arse. The cell phone manufacturer tests to see if the phone works... Verizon "tests" to see if customers like it.
They have no excuse for having such a slim list of available phones.

motorola has been going downhill for a while now. it was the t720/730 that was their last super bad phone. the 710 is good for ony one thing, bluetooth. as far as all f the other phones, hey rarely come back. when they do it is usually a service issue, not a phone issue. i like most of verizon;s phones and i sell the ones i like. i'd ratherlet a sale walk then let them leave the store with an audiovox 8910 or a Kyocera KX2.
Only on the Veizon side of things. They are fine with other carriers........ They use they're "also ran" phones for VErizon.
Mean time Verizvon has those well known Audiovox numbers...and whos that Ky o Cer a...
another set of also ran phone makers.......

Total trash, even though customers paid almost 400 bux for that thing. Now I get customers everyday who have had to exchange the V600 several times and are justifibly PO'd and demanding another model phone.
VZW is better off WITHOUT expensive trash like that. Before the merger Cingular got rid of that pos even faster the AT&T Wireless did. Gotta love those TDMA V60's with antennas coming right off...the list of bad moto's can go on forever.

I have a Kyocera 2235 and it has been a great phone. Have thought about the KX404, but can't get a good feel for it's quality. What kind of return stats do you reps see on it?
Thanks

Seems like Kyocera is kind of hit or miss with mostly misses. I know that my current phone doesn't have the greatest reputation but has worked flawlessly for over two years now. Guess I got lucky.

If Verizon tests their phones so extensively... then why do they suck. Why didnt they realize how the V710 takes horrible pictures and just sucks. Why did they have a huge problem with the Moto T710 (I believe that was the model) last year... I went through 5 of them, not a single one worked well.

Slim list of phones??

Cingular- 30
Sprint- 24
T Mobile- 24
Nextel- 10

audiovox used to be one of the biggest cell maker for verizon. kyocera is amde by qualcomm. qualcomm makes the CDMA chips for al CDMA phones except nokia.
That probably why Nokia's phones are so good for CDMA reception compared to the others. Competitive advantage.

I look at the phones for Sprint and I think wow... I look at the phones for Verizon which has like twice as many customers and they have like 10 phones. Now sprint uses same tech, half the subs and really cool phones... whats the deal vzw?
And what features do you think VZW phones are missing? We have all the same features with our phones that Sprint does. Tell us with more detail why you don't like VZW phone selection

I agree with Aarynk. I think Sprint's phone selection sucks.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell us with facts why VZW phone selection is lacking

First of all, Verizon is unable to pick appealing business oriented phones. Many of their phones contain features that make security minded individuals leery and those that don't are rather inconvenient to use. For instance, just about all of Verizon's flip phones come with cameras. This are not particularly appealing to someone who either has no need for a camera or whose business does not want them. In addition, the VX-3200 does not have an outer display which makes it very difficult to determine whether a call is important while driving or during a meeting. Also, lately, Verizon has been failing to put out phones that support AMPS 800, which is very important when traveling in rural areas. Finall

Couldn't agree more. Like a lot of carriers, I think VZW is in love with the PIX messaging revenue they can make, and therefore aren't offering enough new non-camera phones, even though more and more businesses are banning camera phones from the workplace for security reasons. VZW needs to c...

VZW needs to catch a clue here. ☹️
VZW isn't the only one that primarlily offers camera phones though. all carriers need to catch on.
Sprint on the other hand has tried to get there by trying to be the trendsetters (In the U.S. CDMA world) so they try to build their customer base by generally having more wow factor.

Now the intereseting part is how does Verizon make the transition from their current mindset to providing the types of phones and buzz needed to market 3G and the accompanying services to boost revenues?
The problem is they still have a fantasy of being the sole gatekeeper for any advanced services (GetItNow scam) in order to be able to charge monopoly prices to boost revenues.
That's the real reason their phone selection sucks, so until they change their mindset, it will keep sucking.
Your ISP lets you visit any website. They don't lock you into only websites they run. That doesn't mean you can't pay for certain web services from anyone, or that the ISP can't compete themselves for the services.

if you go to sites which review phones [like cnet], vzw phones don't rate as high as phones for other carriers.
Mmm... well, the site we're ON is a site that reviews phones too, and I tend to trust a large group of users' opinions over that of a single paid reviewer. Looking it up, the following VZW phones got scores of 4.0 or better (out of 5):
Kyocera Koi KX2
Kyocera KX440/KX444
LG VX-7000
LG VX-8000 Motorola V265
BlackBerry 7250 BlackBerry 7750
Samsung SCH-A670
Samsung SPH-i700
UTStarcom (Audiovox) CDM-8615 (coming for VZW, out for others)

Ten years ago there was an uber secret meeting between Sprint, VZW and Alltell to decide a marketing scheme for all of them. Everything was going well, they had split future phone designs evenly, network differences were settled, and after many hours they had all settled down around a camp fire and were singing songs together.
Well, as fate would have it, Cricket showed up and brought some meth and a big jug of moonshine. After a raucaus party, everything went straight to hell. When all was said and done, VZW got the network, Sprint got the phones, Alltell (well, Alltell passed out first and woke up with nothing)...
PS: That "can you hear me now" guy used to be the president of Sprint, but after a p...

That being said, maybe there are some good phones on the verizon horizon. I'm not an optimist [the whole industry is building phones that are make to fall apart], but good things occasionally happen.

Not to start a chat duel here [there seem to be enough of them], but people have to be careful about user reviews. Marketing firms have been known to pay people to come on to sites like this, to add good reviews.
Its just as likely that solo 'official' reviewers are paid off. Pick your poison. *shrug*
