It's good that they turned down verizons offer to build out their lte spectrum is Cell Souths area. Going with Lightsquared is a much wiser option. Every hole in verizons lte network is either an area they won't offer coverage or one that they will spend a lot of cover themselves. For a smaller carrier, it would be really stupid to sign on with the verizon scam plan.

Eh... yes and no. If the smaller carrier's president and/or CEO is in it for the short term and just wants to make a few million by selling out to a bigger carrier, then building Verizon's network isn't such a bad idea.

Considering they are a fiercely independent company, locally owned, a leader in the small carrier movement and every company out there has had the door slammed in their faces by Cellular South, it's doubtful they would employ a CEO who wants to sell the company. And if they did, he would be out and they still wouldn't be sold. So, yeah, its good they turned vzw down. Afterall, saving vzw money isn't the business they are in. I wish I lived in their coverage area tho. I love companies like theirs.

Yeah. So was Century Tel. And Alltel for that matter. They have a price. They simply don't matter enough for a mega carrier like AT&T or VZW to be bothered gobbling them up...yet.
