Droid Pro vs. Droid 2

I just ordered the Droid Pro (pre-sale started today). The confirmation email said it will ship tomorrow (Nov 10). Right after I hit return on my order, I discovered that VZW is now offering the Droid 2 with global capabilities. Gee whiz! I've been waiting months for a Droid with GSM. Should I have purchased the Droid 2 instead?

Go for the Droid Global. insert a tmobile sim with data active and see what happens, might actually get 3G but for sure EDGE. i was just wondering showing that phone to my wife yesterday but we have tmobile and are happy where we are right now so this phone being gsm also opens up possibilities.

That might not work... you should go to your local Verizon store and try it out.

First, you will only get EDGE on T-Mobile, the 3G bands are 850/1900/2100.

Second, I know that several of the Verizon and Sprint CDMA/GSM phones explicitly block US carriers. Not saying that is the case here, but would be worth spending a few minutes with a knowledgeable Verizon employee to see.

You probably would have to root hack the Droid to make it work. Not that that's terribly difficult, but you could void your warranty and brick your phone.

They block US Carriers as a default with the phone. Once you unlock the SIM (all you need to do is contact Global tech support with the phone active on a current verizon line) you can use Domestic SIM cards without issue.

I know a lot of people who got the original Storm and Put it on ATT (don't ask me why, I don't know either)

You will be stuck on EDGE though, Verizon global phones won't work with American GSM 3G

Droid Pro will have the much better keyboard between the two.

Droid2 will have better screen

It really comes to formfactor. You won't notice a .2ghz difference, especially since the smaller screen on the Pro should make it faster

Menno: Many thanks for answering my question. Those other guys really took off on a tangent (smile). Anyone else want to comment? Any reason why I should trade my new Droid Pro for a Droid 2?
