Why does Nextel suck so bad in the USA? I mean like down in Peru it rocks, I love it. The phones they have suck, but the service rocks, I mean they even have data cards for Nextel down there in Peru (I imagine most of South America is roughly the same with the service) which offer pretty decent internet service...

Why couldn't they do the same in the States? Why did they leave the service get soooo outdated and slow? Does Sprint even own Nextel International Services?

I'm using Cricket right now because I work in San Diego and it's cheap, but we have a Boost Mobile that we use to talk to my wife's family in Peru from Cali and Baja California (we live in Tijuana) and it rocks. I'll be sad when that no longer exists, I'll probably have t...

RE: "Why does Nextel suck so bad in the USA?"

It's simply because Sprint bought Nextel just to take over the spectrum that Nextel owned.

Sprint employees nearly all hate Nextel, so they not only do not promote it, they actively try to make it go away. Now that they got all the spectrum from Nextel (that is what Sprint & Clear are using for their new WiMax network now), they just want Nextel & iDEN to go away so they can concentrate on WiMax.

Because they have not invested anything at all in Nextel, and they have repeatedly shown disrespect toward the Nextel subscrubers, the iDEN network is shrinking and the Nextel customers are leaving in droves.

So, the whole problem from the beginning is Sprint, not Nextel.

Yeah, but you're comparing the destroyed Nextel of today with the CDMA, WiMax, etc that have had BILLIONS of dollars pumped into them while iDEN has had not one cent put into it for five years now.

If Nextel had stayed the course alone, kept improving iDEN coverage & features while adding THEIR data solution (which was Flarion, which was the forbearer of WiMax), then Nextel users could have kept their bulletproof PTT and gotten high-speed data to go along with it, then everyone would have benefitted and been happy.

Very true that Motorola device quality plummeted during the timeframe you cited.

Again, the above is completely and 100% false. If anything, iDEN has had more investment than CDMA. Look back through engadget, phonescoop, or whatever other blogs (not to mention internal emails and pages that touted it) that talked about dropped calls and call quality. Sprint dumped a ton of money, probably hundreds of millions, into bringing iDEN call quality to parity with CDMA and GSM.
