Not Sure I Agree With This...

We know Google and Apple are competitors. Each having their own offerings to consumers. Both also having similar offerings but in different forms.

We know that Google users sometimes want an app that Apple may have and VisaVersa. This is what creates the competitive movement in choice. We also know the value of business and wanting to grab marketshare and can understand a certain logic in offering services to an abundance.

However, I'm not so sure I am in agreement with Google having pushed so hard to sharing their content of offerings with Apple. Google Voice in particular. Isn't this what distinguishes the two apart from one another? If you like what Apple offers, you purchase Apple. If you like what Android offers, you purchase And...

Google is an advertising company that uses a search engine, a mobile OS, a web browser and other elements to reach more people more often. They make them extremely useful so you want to use it, and they get tons of ad revenue.

Not getting their applications on the iPhone would be silly and miss a huge market.

I understand that part but my point would be that there would be no reason to purchase an Android product if an individual could get it on the iphone.

Offering ads is one thing. Offering a key feature of operation is another.

But that would be if they wanted to sell phone OS's as their primary form of revenue.

They don't, though.

They want to have the most popular OS, for sure, to attract more users which equals more ad revenue.

They offer tons of free, and extremely useful stuff (Voice, Docs, etc.) to keep you going to Google and keep that ad revenue flowing. Just because they could leverage it only to Android doesn't mean they should, they'd lose money.

Google doesn't make money off of Android in and of itself- they make money off of the ads they run. They make the same money off of those ads whether it is on iOS or Android, so Google's financial motives are the exact opposite of Apple's, whose goal is to sell a vertically integrated platform.

So keeping Google's services to themselves in the name of creating an Android competitive advantage would cost them far more money than they could recoup. It would also hurt the service- all in the name of propping up an OS that as we've learned isn't always a secure source of revenue.

It'd be hilarious if Apple released an iTunes store on Android.

Android and iOS are platforms.

GVoice is an app/service.

This would be no different than Apple making an iTunes app for Android users to download.

Or Microsoft making Office available for OSx. They'd rather you have it on Windows, obviously, but why restrict yourself and lose customers?

Give users on another platform access to services.

There is nothing about GVoice that is phone restricted. You can use it with dumb-phones. App just gives better/fancier service.

Google wants you to use their products. Yes, android is preferable for them, but they understand that not everyone wants android. So they create the app for other platforms.

The thing is that it still is integrated the best on android though (just like gmail, etc) so those people on iOS or BB, etc who use google apps more than anything else on their device might start looking at android where they would ignore it before.

I have Gv configured as my international calling/texting line. If I remember correctly, you can't really do this with the ios app.

I guess it's the vindictive side of me coming out. 😁

I was such an Apple supporter years ago and ditched the crusade due to their self-absorbed practice of trying to keep their propriety software and hardware too close to home. I as well as others felt left out while the rest of the computer technology moved forward with standardization. So we did as well.

The short term of Google offering their apps to Apple is undoubtedly an initial win for everyone. However, I feel long term is playing into Apple's survival. History repeats itself and I could eventually see consumers of Apple leaving in search for what the majority of what the population is enjoying. Obviously this is just my analysis of course. You can already see blogs with Appl...

Geez, you know what? I don't know. I haven't set it up yet. I downloaded it last week, but haven't done anything with it.

I'll have to take the time to do so. However, today I have bowling then a family get together afterwards. So today will have to wait. You will be the first to know when I am operationapl with it.
