Sprint Mulling Switch to LTE and T-Mobile Merger
Nextel part deux?
A merger when LTE is the current medium of communication is all fine and dandy, but what about when it's not yet. Didn't they learn anything with the clusterf*ck that was the Nextel merger?

Nextel was a mess because of iDen and the fact that Sprint was ,and possibly still is, trying to sell the iDen network. iDen is a dead technology now and was on its way down when Sprint purchased them. The only thing iDen had to offer was PTT which only contractors use any more.
T-Mobile on the other hand is kinda a GMS version of Sprint. Sprint, and VZW for that matter, already sell CDMA/GSM handsets which could be used until a large nationwide LTE network is up and running. Even then the phones will still need to be able to fall back on the legacy 3G networks for areas where 4G is not available.

You're kidding right? IDEN is failing because Sprint Nextel management (past and current) don't support the product and did their best to come up with sorry alternatives to get IDEN customers to switch networks when they didn't want to switch. Any company that chooses to merge with Sprint Nextel is silly because Sprint Nextel unfortunately has proven they can't execute a merger.

I believe the main reason they "merged" was for the 2.5 Ghz spectrum Nextel was awarded from the FCC for moving public safety frequencies out of their range. This is the spectrum they are currently using for their Wimax network.
