It's a failure and horrible phone Blue?

Check Phonescoop's hands on.

Here is a taste:

Based on the few moments we've spent with the Droid X, it is a sure-fire winner. Verizon Wireless and Motorola are going to sell bazillions of these things. It impresses all the way around. We can safely say that Motorola knocked it out of the park.

This phone looks like a giant (literally) piece of crap to be honest. The assembly looks like something LG pitched years ago. I'm not saying they won't sell quite a few- Verizon customers have lower standards for phones.. most of their customers will probably be upgrading from an LG Dare.

The front buttons (although thank god they're physical) look like crap too, for what it's worth.

Engadget also waxed poetic on the original Droid, which again I think is about as bad as smartphone designs come.

and your opinion is YOUR opinion.

Engadget, Phonescoop, phone arena, boy genius report, cnet, and countless other blogs all like the original droid, both design and what it did.

believe it or not, your opinion does not reality make

Period. It isn't. My opinion on design comes from an understanding as to how design works.

Putting cheap gold plastic buttons is not design. A numb useless keyboard is not good design. That whole top-is-smaller-than-the-bottom sure as hell wasn't. The indifferent panel shapes were not good design (contrast the Droid to say... the RAZR where much attention was paid to how the phone fit together.)

What's ridiculous is that at one time Motorola was one of the best product design companies in the world. The Droid lineup has been anything but.

It helps to know that design ┰  style.

Android phones are now selling at a higher rate than iPhones. There will be a spike when the iPhone 4 comes out but reality is it's Apple against the rest of the industry. If they continue with the crap like the way this launch is being handled no one will like or trust them. you can only play people for so long before they have had enough and abandon you. Apple has a long history of playing the public and their partners as well.
I'm sorry to disappoint but the iPhone 4 is not the equal to the Incredible OR the EVO.
They needed a big change and got less than the market was looking for.
Bluecoyote can come on with his blustery Android sucks posts but the fact remains that Android is not only here to stay but it will eventually give Black...

In all fairness, I'll quote an Engadget article from this morning "The iPhone 4 is the best smartphone on the market today"

I'm not gonna say the Droid X isn't nice, but geez, why does this one get such an incredible (and fast) review based on mere moments with the phone when the EVO didn't get the same treatment with the same (and better in some ways) specifications?

I'm going to go ahead and throw the "obvious bias" flag on their "first look" review of the phone.

And the Iphone Comment isn't obvious Bias ? I will say this for the billionth time, I LIKE APPLE ! But lets be real all the Iphone 4 is, is ideas that where already out there on other phones that people liked and have wanted since the first Iphone and now they are getting it. How does that make it the best Phone on the market ?

I donno man, it was an first glance review and normal thouse are base on emotion rather then facts and stats. I see what your saying, my retort is that it my be more wow factor then anything, and again if looking at the number and using the device for more then a week you call it the best on the market when there are other phones that do exactlly the same thing is a littel strange to me.

what I said:

Also, it appears you started this thread with a little bit of "intent to flame"

It's a failure and horrible phone Blue?

And yeah, I did read the 11 paragraph "first look" Eric wrote on the device "Based on the few moments we've spent with the Droid X" and kind of wondered if they are on Verizons payroll..

Menno

Jun 23, 2010, 6:01 PM
You saw that YOU and Blue (two apple fans) where the first ones to post on an android news posting right.

That's intent to flame. (just like his post in the droids hands on forum, his writing off of ANY dissenting viewpoint as people who don't know what they're talking about, etc). Why are you trying so hard to follow in his footsteps?

And yes, engadget had a great hands on as well, AND they gave a great review of the iphone, so apparently they're not apple haters.

Read the first look at endgadget, boy genius, wired, slashgear, etc first looks of the device. ALL of them are positive.

Are you trying to say that the only way they could possibly like this phone is if verizon is paying ALL of them? Talk about being paranoid.

Considering android is activating 160k units a day, and fully 1/3 of active androids out there seem to be the moto droid, they'll sell a lot.

Especially with the upgrade push up (a first for verizon as far as I know), the marketing push, and the subliminal messages verizon is putting in your wheaties box.. well, maybe not that last part (they prefer captn krunch)

Kind of pisses me off a little, you know, being one of the guys who actually sold the first (and second, and third) version of iPhone to be released to the world!

Again with them saying that the phone feels great in the hand, has an amazing build quality.

Their Summary:

In summary, our first impressions are very, very positive. Between the phones impressive stat sheet and our initial tests we can’t wait to start really putting this thing through its paces over the next several weeks.

So engadget, boygeniusreport (both known to be less android fans than apple), and phonescoop all disagree with your impressions AGAIN blue (kind of like they did with the original droid)

I think BGR's red flag can be found by calling it "Great Industrial Design."

I guarantee you no Industrial designer is going to wax poetic about either of the Droid's. I'm not saying everyone's going to hate the design, I'm just stating that people who find the designs of either Droid handset 'Great' are full of it.

They're not all crap, they're just not always right. And I call them out on it. I'll call them all out with this one red flag- nobody seems to have found justification as to why this piece of crap exemplified "excellent industrial design." But from looking at the indifferent assembly, the craptacular looking buttons, and the port faces (ala cheap HP laptop.. that comes to mind) I'm again saying they're full of it.

It's like when people called the HTC Touch Diamond "excellent industrial design" (taking iPhone/Android fanboyism out of the picture here) - most of the idiots who claimed this wouldn't be able to even give you a correct definition of design.

Of course it wasn't excellent design- it was all just stylization.

You do realize that most people who have covers over their ports hate the covers right? Open ports like those on the X are a welcome change from little plastic pieces that can fall off.

I agree w/u plastic/rubber covers. A good word that comes to mind is "flimsy". There's nothing about the Droid that's flimsy.

Jun 24, 2010, 4:49 PM
I can do one better. Oftentimes I have to plug in the charger to my phone by feel, because I am in a position where I can't see the port. When they are flush with the body, it is much harder to find them by feel than when there is a "bump" with the ports on it.

And port covers suck. Either the plug comes out and gets lost forever, or the doohickey that holds it on is all in the way and a bother with your case. It gets ripped off.

Plus, this is microUSB port. It is not the older LG port, which is notorious for being a bad design that always breaks.

Lots of phones have color coded side buttons now. It's a dark set color, so it isn't too flashy about its presence. I see nothing wrong with that.

The hole in the top is for the speaker...

I'm not arguing with him. More pointing out his flaws so that people who read his comments aren't confused into thinking he actually is worth listening to on anything but iphone/webos development techniques.

Since people started arguing with him he's gone from "stuck up iphone junky" to "I'm perfect and that's final." So it's much easier to spot him as a troll.
